One of my dearest friends had an aneurysm 11 years ago. Amazingly, she pulled through and spent a long hard year battling back to her new "normal". I was single at the time and was able to move into her house for an extended period of time and help out. She and her husband had been together for many years at the time, but were not yet married for a myriad of reasons. They had separate homes, so I was able to take care of her animals, mow the yard, do household work she was in the hospital and then when she came home - I felt like I was really helping her recover.
Lightening stuck twice. She had another aneurysm on the 4th of July. First signs were that this recovery was going to be much better. First time around, she was in a coma for weeks. This time, within 48 hours she was able recognize people and spoke a few words.
Over the weekend, things took a turn for the worst and she had a stroke. The doctors are giving her a 25% survival chance and if she does survive, a very, very slim chance she'll ever recover cognitive ability.
Obviously her husband, family and friends are devestated. While her husband and family are coping with making decisions about her prognosis and options, her friends are left feeling completely unable to do anything to help, broken hearted that there may be the possibility we'll lose her, knowing that she would never want to live if she wasn't somewhat herself.
She isn't even 50 yet. She's beautiful, talented, generous, funny, thoughtful, wise, and a supportive and loyal friend. I don't quite know what I'll do without her friendship as an anchor in my life.
Please pray for her healing, for her family - for her husband - for strength and peace in whatever is to come. And for her friends who are feeling so lost and helpless right now.
