I posted this on 12-24 months too. I am flying for the first time with my 18 month old this weekend. She has food allergies (soy, dairy and egg) so I need to bring all of her food for the 6-7 hour trip. Did anyone have any problems carrying food in? I am planning to bring tons of dry snacks, some fruit (banana, peach) and baby oatmeal cereal (dry mix), formula powder.
Re: Flying with Food Allergy Toddler
Last time i flew with DS i sent a box of food before leaving (i was scared my luggage would get lost).. so i sent oatmeal, cereal, milk, pastas..)
I also carried on some food (extra milk, almond butter, and some food).. I had my allergist give me a letter just in case they gave me a hard time. I called the airport and the airline and told them and they said no problem, just bring the letter. They told me the food has to go under the plane and just one day worth of food/milk can be taken on board.
No one ever checked the letter but it was nice to have. (the letter said that my son has food allergies and has to have special food with him).
I ended up separating the milk into different carry-on luggages and they told me never to do that b/c now they have to go through all the luggage. Just put everyone in one place so only one carry-on gets checked.
We just did this. Check out the TSA website... there is some helpful info about traveling with kids. ( I don't know how to link, but here it is https://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/children/index.shtm)You are allowed to bring food and milk/ drinks for any child. We only had a two hour flight and I brought one cup of soy milk. The agent was very nice but when he tested the milk with a strip (it is in the air, they don't put it in the milk), he accidentally spilled it!! He recommended that we bring two on the way back, LOL, and we did.It did not have to be under a certain amount of oz.s, just a "reasonable amount for a child".
They just asked that we took all of the liquids out as you would your clear baggie so that they don't have to find them in the bag.
It's a lot less stressful than it used to be, all around! I saw on the TSA website that you can even bring a pie, just not a large jar of gravy... HA!! (this was addressing traveling with food over the holidays.
