choosing the best pump - can't choose.

I was able to EBF my DD and want to try with my twin girls. But I feel like I need to invest in a new pump to help me with that goal.

I was lurking on the BF board and seems like people equally like and dislike the Medela PISA and Freestyle. I was reading how helpful the hands free option can be with the Freestyle, but am hesitant at a price tag of $100 more.

I thought I'd ask the ladies on this board their thoughts, especially those who pumped for twins with an older LO at home.

TIA!

  • I am sure that someone probably mentioned this over on that board but they make handsfree pumping bras.  They are super-weird looking but awesome for keeping your hands available for important things like being on The Bump :).  That is what I used with my PISA.

  • PISA. All the LCs I know agree that Freestyle is not worth the extra $$. I always pumped hands free with my PISA - no special bra or anything - just shoved the flanges in my bra and ate lunch, worked, Bumped, etc. There is also a rubber band trick on Kellymom to make any bra and pump combo hands-free.

  • I purchased a PISA before the babies were here.

Then I rented a Medela Symphony a day after they were born.  I mostly used the Symphony for 9 months.  It's so much better than the PISA (IMO).  My rental was $45 / month (which is cheaper than many other places).  I still used the PISA while I was in the car and when I was out running errands.

For both pumps I used the Simple Wishes hands free bra.  For a mere $35 it lasted me pumping 10.5 months - pumped around 2,000 times.  That's a lot of uses.

    Just my 2 cents!

  • I asked my friend who has BF 2 babies and she said that if you just fold your bra or tank top over the pump, it pretty much holds it there in place so you can do other things.

I think i'm going with the Medela

I do agree that the Symphony kicks a$$!  If you chose to rent that would def be the way to go.

  • Definitely get the symphony if you're going to rent. And the simple wishes hands-free bra is AWESOME. $35 on Amazon and totally worth it.
  • I have the freestyle and its "all right."  I LOVE how mobile it is, just clip it on my pants with the medela hands free bustier and away I go...dishes, laundry, diapers etc.  However, after using the hospital pump while the babies were in the NICU I'd say it is not nearly as effecient as a hospital grade pump.

  • I'm in love with my Medela PISA.  I bought it on craigslist for $50, then spent about $30 on getting new parts (stuff I wouldn't want to reuse from someone else like the tubes, etc).  Totally worth it IMO.  I used it for 9months with DS1 (I exclusively pumped) and will do the same with these babies.
