Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Well crap (sunblock)

So I bought neutrogena pure & free sunblock because I am taking DS out to the splash pad tomorrow with my cousin & her kiddos (plus a hat, rash guard, swim trunks).  But when I got home I realized that I bought the regular pure and free and not the pure and free baby.  Is there a difference, can I still use it on DS tomorrow, or do I need to run out and get the baby stuff?

If I do need to go out and get the baby stuff, where did you guys find it?  I found the regular pure & free at cvs but I didn't see the baby sunblock....

  • I got mine at CVS. You could always call and ask the pharmacist--if they don't know off hand, they can always look it up for you.

  • Check the active ingredients list, if it's an oxide it's fine (Zinc oxide, titanium oxide), anything else, no.

Also, always do a patch test on a small area to see if he reacts first.

  • It's titanium dioxide and zinc oxide

  • Honestly you're better off getting something completely different. Neutrogenea Pure and Free Baby still uses retinyl palmitate as an ingredient which makes that it's a zinc base a moot point since the palmitate has been shown to increase the growth of tumors. Head to Target instead and find some California Baby brand.

  • Don't drink the Koolaid about the retinyl palmitate. This ingredient is a) an ester of Vitamin A, b) well documented to be safe in concentrations present in cosmetic products like sunscreen, and c) also present in lots of other products with no deleterious effects. Some elements in the media have latched onto this ingredient as dangerous based on a handful of animal studies that were poorly designed and improperly extrapolated to the human model.

I'm a pharmacist and use the Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby on my kid. Just use a good quality, PABA-free product with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. They're messy as hell, but a good choice for an infant.

    Thanks beat me to it.

As far as I'm concerned research causes cancer in lab rats.
