3rd Trimester

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) infection

I just found out that I have this infection.  I heard that even after antibiotic treatment, this infection is likely to come back.  If you had this, did your antibiotic treatment took care of it? or did it come back?

Hopefully my ob will keep track of this until it is complete treated.

I definitely feel that this infection has increased BH contractions.  Did you experience this and once treated did the contractions go back to normal?

Any other information you can give me will be very helpful.  TIA

For those who don't know the symptoms of this infection. For me this infection caused sharp shooting pain in center of my vag, along with increased yellow discharge, and fishy odor in my urine.

Re: Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) infection

  • I was diagnosed with BV around 21 weeks. The only symptom I had was discharge. I actually went to the er because I had so much discharge that I was afraid I was leaking amniotic fluid. I took antibiotics for 5 days and the excessive discharge stopped. But now, it is back again, so at my next dr's visit, I'm going to have them check again.

I am sorry you also have to deal with this infection.  I am having discharge also but just started taking antibiotics.  Hopefully it will clear up the infection.  I hope you get relief from this very soon.  Hugs

  • i had it both pregnancies. twice actually, or at least i had to take 2 rounds of antibiotics for it to completely go away. no other serious side effects though- it was just like a bad yeast infection IMO. it's fairly common in pregnancy because of your hormones be all out of whack.

  • I had it not too long ago and actually went to the Dr because I thought I was going into preterm. I had contractions that were pretty much solid and didn't give up! I had pain like a 7 everytime I tried to sit down and the pain went from a 4 to a 7 every couple of minutes. I am considered high risk, s they saw me right away. My cervix had shortened some (probably not due to BV) and I had BV.....5 days of antibiotics and so far so good! Good Luck to you!

  • I had it with my first pregnancy and it caused pre-term labor at 14 and 21 weeks, but I only dilated a finger tip and after treatment it was fine.  I had it this pregnancy around 17 weeks and it caused BH contractions bad but I wasn't dilating or anything so they weren't concerned.  I'm 34 weeks and I haven't gotten it since 17 weeks.
  • I had it twice when pg with my twins. The first time, at 23.5 weeks, I had some low back pain and went in to get checked out and found out it was a BV infection. The antibiotics worked for some time but it came back around 28 weeks. I again went on antibiotics but this next time the dr. added a high dose of Vitamin D (apparently this helped fight bacteria/ward off repeat infection). It was about 1200 mg a day.I didn't get it again after the 2nd round and never had any complications. I was induced at nearly 39 weeks with the twins.

This pg, I had my OB test for BV at 26 weeks just to be sure but had no sign of it.

GL and hope your meds work asap!

  • I had it after I had my first baby.  They had a hard time getting rid of it.  I first used an antibiotic gel that I inserted inside every day.  When that didn't do the trick, they upped the dosage & intensity.

My only symptom was that it was painful for me to have sex, and this was 2-4 months after delivery.
