glider with ottoman vs rocking recliner???

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was and what they are getting for the nursery. I am torn. I can't decide if I want a glider with ottoman or a rocking recliner. I have heard good things about both. This is our first baby so I have no experience with what would be best. I think the glider with ottoman looks cute and would fit nicely in the nursery with the option to put your feet up and glide. Plus I like the option of the padded arm rests and pockets on the side for goodies. But a rocking recliner might be better.I heard they are much more comfier and if you have a late night with the baby, reclining a little to get some sleep is like heaven. I have heard that they are more comfortable and when the baby falls asleep you can just recline and hold the baby (not sure being a first time mommy if I would actually do this being afraid of dropping the baby or something happening). But then there are also those big comfy chairs with ottoman's too. I just have no clue what to get or where to start. HELP!!

Re: glider with ottoman vs rocking recliner???

  • I selected a rocker recliner, mostly for the comfort and sleeping capability. Also, we purchased new living room furniture in February, and I figured I would get more long term use out of it if I just bought a piece to match my new living room set. The only downside is the inability to rock with your feet up. I have found an easy solution in my birthing ball, though!

  • We had same dilemma and went with glider once we realized you couldn't rock while in the reclined position. We have 2 other recliners in the house so we figured we could use one of those if we need to recline. We love the size of our glider in the room too. You might want to check dimensions to make sure you have adequate space for the recliner folded out. That may help you decide. Good luck!

  • We have ended up with both of them and they both have slightly different purposes. I kind of prefer the recliner, but then....I had a c-section and it helps a lot with that! You can sleep in it instead of in your bed. (It hurts so much to use your muscles to get out of bed, but the recliner does most of that work for you.)

  • We got a glider w/ottoman that has a reclining feature, so you can glide while reclined. It is so comfortable that I am worried I will fall asleep in it while feeding the LO.

  • I also got the glider and ottoman and out glider reclines.  It has been wonderful.  The only downside (which would be for either) is how much space it takes up...

We got a Dutailier when they had a sale at Babies R Us (buy the glider, get the ottoman free) and it has been fantastic!!

  • We used a recliner in DS' room and it worked well, but he also wasn't much of a rocker.  It was nice as he got older and had colds.  We could take turns sleeping in it with him.  It kept him a little elevated with a stuffy nose, but back enough we could sleep.  We will be moving it to the baby's room as well.

  • I am using my Dutailer glider and matching ottoman from 1999 because it is perfectly comfy and still like new.  We just got a rocking upholstered chair and I am adding a little pouf ottoman from etsy so my DH will have something to put his feet up on.  Both will fit in our master/nursery, and we have a Lane Recliner out in the living room, too!  I think we are prepared in the comfy chair category.

  • I got the glider because it isn't bulky like most recliners. My glider is super comfy, fits in my nursery perfectly and I love it! Plus I don't like the idea of being able to fall asleep with the baby on me because I'm afraid he would get used to sleeping that way if it happened too often. My sis-in-law would always fall asleep with the baby on her chest and now when I (or anyone else) try to put him to sleep he has to be on your chest or on his stomach which isn't safe for a 3 month old. So ya I definitely say a glider, but that's just me :) Good luck!!

  • We got the recliner. Ours actually rocks while reclined, so that is nice. It's only 33 inches wide, so it's not a whole lot bigger than the glider, but it's more comfortable.
  • I had a glider with my first LO but am going with a recliner for this one. The gliders are nice but not very comfy when you're forced to sit straight up during those late night rocking sessions. I like the idea of being able to recline and maybe catch some zzz's as well in the recliner. I know how tired I was with my first, so I went with a recliner this time. Plus a recliner is something you can always use whether baby is little or grown!
