Old lady or cute? I kinda like it but think everyone else will think old great-grandmother (and not in a good way)

I prefer Maple or Sable or Fable, all are quite unusual but whenever I hear Mabel I think of this saying my grandpa used to say:

"Get off the table, Mabel, your moneys on the bed." or something like that. I'm sure that's not common, but it's what I think of. And old lady.

FWIW, in the old sitcom "Mad About You," the baby's name was Mabel. That's when the show started to go downhill, tho! HA

This is where I remember it from. I didn't see the show after the baby was born but its what brought the name to mind for a baby

Yep, this is what I think of too... and remember they "came up" with the name because the letters spell Mothers Always Bring Extra Love. I remember thinking "BARF" at the time.

Hehe sorry I made the comment about it would make me laugh. I guess I just can't picture a little baby with that name and I think it would make me giggle! I am just not an old lady name fan. But maybe it would grow on me if I actually met a precious little baby girl named Mabel.

I've seen this name come up on this board a couple of times recently, so apparently, it's starting to gain some popularity. I named my ancient Dodge Ram truck Mabel because it's a good, solid old lady name for a good, solid old lady truck...so I guess you have my opinion right there! But if it helps any, I love my truck half to death, so the name has a positive association for me.
