Linen Ring Sling for Newborn

I have a Moby and a Wrapsody Bali Stretch for the new baby.  I LOVED the Moby with my son but I was looking for something that might be a bit easier to slip the baby in/out of and to nurse in for the new baby.

I was drawn to the Comfy Joey Linen ring slings like this- https://www.comfyjoey.com/catalog.php?item=294&catid=40&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D40  I am drawn to the fact that it is easy to pop baby in/out, low price, linen so its strong enough to use it past the infant stage if I wanted PLUS lightweight for South Carolina summers and I like that the tail can be used to help me cover up when I'm NIPing.

Anyone have any thoughts on Comfy Joey slings?  Linen ring slings?  Ring slings for newborns in general?  I'd happily take other suggestions for options for babywearing a newborn as well.  FWIW I have an Ergo for when the baby gets bigger but I'm also interested in a woven for when the baby is bigger but I'll ask about those later in a seperate post ;)

Re: Linen Ring Sling for Newborn

  • I don't have experience with Comfy Joey, but I use a linen  RS with my newborn and I LOVE it. It is so easy when you are out! I use the Moby at home, but it is too hot here in OK to use it when out right now.

I got my RS  from Sleeping Baby Productions for around $50. I also got the matching zipper pouch that snaps on the rings - LOVE this since it hold my keys, phone and wallet...plus a couple diapers.

  • Thank you- that is very helpful.  Have you nursed in public in the ring sling?  If so, was it fairly easy to manuever?  I nursed a few times in the Moby in public but it wasn't ideal as he was sitting up.  I have a hard time NIP with DS because I have HUGE boobs (bigger than his head) so I feel really insecure about it. I'm hoping that a nursing top + ring sling to hold AND cover the baby = easy NIPing with this one so I can get out more than I did with DS was a baby.

  • I just got my sleeping baby productions linen rs and love it for all the reasons you mentioned. I have really huge breasts and haven't mastered nursing in Amy carrier yet but am trying.. Comfy joey, sleeping baby productions, and Sakura bloom are all really popular and you can't go wry g with them. They all have sightly different shouldernstyles and which one you wil like is totally personal preference and you won't know till you try it on. For me it came down to sbp being really reasonably priced and very highly reviewed. I love it. The shoulder is pleated with an adorable row of embroidery. Next I want a Sakura bloom pixie rock candy, but at $150 it's going to be a little while. There is a sling on there site for $1441 how crazy is that?

  • Another highly reviewed quick in and out option is the K'tan. They spread the weight over both shoulders but have the ease of in and out of a sling. They are really well reviewed. I have ones for me and dh that I am going to sell because I'm not USO g them so much any ore though.

I love LOVE my linen RS! I made it myself, and I'll never use another fabric. It's thin, strong, supportive, cool, everything you could want in a sling. I don't use it much anymore because it's just too much weight on one shoulder, but it's great to pop him in to run across the street to check the mail or something.

  • Thanks so much ladies. I'm sold.  I'm now debating between the Sleepy Baby Productions and Comfy Joey (I think even Sakura Bloom might be too expensive for me compared to the other two).

  • I have a linen Sakura Bloom and I love it.  I wore it all day yesterday while we explored NYC and nursed him while walking around the Met.  I dont have any other experience with the different brands but the sakura bloom was totally worth the $ for me.

NIP in my RS is the next thing I am going to try. I am going to start practicing at home first. I purposely got a longer sling to do this - so the tail can cover her. I have monster big-enough-to-eat-the-baby boobs too....

Oh good!  Please post when you do and let me know how hard/easy it is to do.  I was so absolutely awful at NIPing with my son.  I'm really hoping I find something to make it easier this time so I'm not trapped inside with two kids!
