Do I really need to register for 4 different strollers?!?! Help!

So I have been updating my registry and I am stumped! According to BRU I need a Travel stroller combo system, Umbrella stroller, jogging stroller and stand alone stroller.

I know I won't need a jogging stroller, and plan to purchase the UBV, so do I need the travel system and umbrella stroller?  I'm going to need to find a  second home just to put all the stuff BRU says I need to register for.

How many strollers did you register for and what type are essential to have?

Thanks!

Re: Do I really need to register for 4 different strollers?!?! Help!

  • You really *need* just one stroller. Umbrella stroller will come in handy around 2yr and on top of that- you don't know if your kid will end up hating strollers and will want to be carried/walk everywhere.

Jogging strollers are great if you live in the middle of nowhere and the roads are bumpy as they have the smoothest rides (usually). If you live in the city and you are not a jogger/runner- skip the jogging stroller. Your regular one will do just fine.

So based on that- a stroller that can accomodate the infant car seat is all you need. For a few months you will use it with the car seat and then use it by itself.

    Hope that helps!

  • We only registered for a City Mini (its technically a jogging stroller, but its small and light so thats why we want it-we live in the suburbs) and will either buy or borrow a Snap "n" go for the beginning. From what I've read & seen & heard, most babies need the support of their infant car seat for about the first 6 months, and then once they are able to hold their upper bodies up a bit you can switch them out of their infant seat.  We liked the City Mini b/c it has a lot of different positions, the sun shade thing is HUGE and it was light. The only downfall that I can see (and have heard) is that the cargo space underneath isnt that big--which for me isn't a big deal since I live in my car and don't need to use my stroller to go shopping.

    Good luck!

  • If you are getting the UBV, then I think you are fine for a while.  Register for that and see how your LO does.

The only other thing would be to think about registering for an umbrella stroller for use later on.  IMO that would just be if you wanted to try to have someone buy it for you, otherwise you can get one pretty cheap later on.

  • I registered for a City Mini with the Car Seat Adaptor bar, I liked how it is small and compact but moves around really nice, I also registered for a Chicco umbrella stroller that reclines down a little.  My advice is to go to BRU or whatever baby store is by you and try out what different strollers you might like. For us the travel systems were to big and bulky.

    HTH!

  • Wonderful advice, thank you ladies! I feel much better about my choices and don't think I will have to rent a storage unit to house all this stuff! LOL!

  • You need one stroller...the travel system.  BRU, of course, is going to list all of them because they want your $$.

  • We purchased a Graco travel system on clearance at BRU for $95 (reg price $240).  I didn't even want the stroller that came w/ it, but it was cheaper than purchasing the car seat by itself.

I also purchased a Graco Snugrider frame (a snap and go type frame).  This is the one I plan on using the most in the first few months.  The one that came w/ the travel system is just bulky and heavy - I don't see me using it by myself.  If DH is there to help lug it in and out of my SUV, then I may use it more.

I am also registered for a jogging stroller.....

So, that makes 3 strollers for me total!

(And, once the baby gets older and is out of the infant carrier, I will most likely buy an umbrella stroller... Hopefully I can find one used)

  • We have the UBV and that's the only stroller we've used so far.  DD just turned 13 months.

I recently bought an inexpensive First Years umbrella stroller for travel.  For the first year we usually wore DD when it was inconvenient to bring the UBV somewhere, but not that she's bigger, she will not nap while we're wearing her.  So I got the umbrella stroller because we're planning a trip on a train this summer and I want to have something she might nap in (she does sleep in the UBV).

Also, I wanted something cheap that I wouldn't mind checking somewhere, like the library or a museum.  We have a nanny this summer and she'll be able to walk to the local children's museum with DD - I definitely didn't want her to have to be responsible for a $650 stroller!

  • Remember they are just looking for your money. The BRU registry list is completely ridiculous, IMO.

We bought a used snap and go for the first few months, and we'll get a jogging stroller for later because I am a runner.  Other than maybe adding a cheap 10 dollar umbrella stroller later on, that will be the extent of our strollers. It sounds like a lot, but 2 of the 3 were/are under 20 dollars.

If I wasn't a runner, I would just get an all purpose stroller instead of the umbrella+jogger.

  • As this thread shows, everyone likes different things.  I think most parents want two things:  1) ability to attach an infant  carseat, and 2) A stroller that will work once the child is sitting upright/out of the infant carseat.

Personally, I like a snap and go for the infant seat and then a more full featured umbrella stroller.  I'm not a fan of regular, full size strollers.  Umbrellas are easier to fold and store for me and tend to be narrower/have a narrower turning radius.

  • You're getting an amazing stroller in the UBV - so I don't think you need anything else.

We are a one stroller family, but we have a Maclaren Kate Spade stroller.  We wore DD as a newborn, or just carried her infant seat into restaurants.  Once she was finally old enough to sit in the stroller, she loved it.  She's great in the stroller, and it folds compact enough to fit our needs.  Most strollers are too big to fit in our cars or too expensive for our budget.  My FIL bought us the Maclaren because he saw it on Gilt.

  • The UPPABaby Vista IS a travel system. A travel system is any stroller that allows you to use is with car seat, with a bassinet, with a seat etc. That will be your main stroller. If you are an actual jogger, then you'll need a jogging stroller. A stroller needs to be tested and approved for jogging in order to be safe for it. You definitely do not need one if you are not a jogger. Then you'll need a lightweight or umbrella stroller. I would suggest the City Mini or maybe an UPPABaby G-Luxe. The City Mini is not a jogging stroller.
  • Find the stroller that YOU like. BRU "recommends" lots of things that you will never use just to add to their bottom line. If you want a travel system then buy that. A friend bought a stroller with larger wheels because she likes to exercise and it was something in between a jogger and a regular stroller. There are several such strollers out there on the market that fall into this category.

Just an FYI, you can't jog with the City Mini.  Wanted to point it out in case that was a deciding factor for you.

  • BRU will also say you need more than you do - they are in the business of selling things afterall.

If you're going with the UBV then that's really all you need. I would suggest getting the car seat adapter so you can use it as a snap and go/travel system. My friend has this and that's all she uses.

We went a different route with a BOB with car seat attachement because we take the little on uneven trails frequently and wanted something more all terrain. It's big for most inside malls/stores so we do have a Maclaren umbrella stroller as well.

I think if you can narrow your list down to two strollers that makes sense for a registry. You don't want to seem too greedy afterall.

  • My baby didn't even like to be in a stroller until she could sit up.

I didn't know that, obviously, so the only stroller we registered for was the Snap n Go with the intention of making up our minds later about another stroller.  We used the Snap n Go once.  ONCE!

We now have a BOB and a Maclaren Volo (which I wouldn't recommend...it's crap unless your baby is a toddler).
