Now expecting twins...need help with best hospital/ob practice in Seattle area

We just went in for our first ultrasound yesterday and not only did our due date move up, we found two babies floating around in there.  Our original birth plan was to use the midwives at Eastside Birth Center, but now I am high risk and looking for where to go next.  I appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Congrats on the twins!!!  Its quite the shock isnt it??

I am currently going to Associated valley obgyn and planning to deliver at Valley, however if I was in Seattle I would definitely find someone to deliver me at Swedish!    IMO Swedish is the best hospital around and I'm a big fan of the OBs at Minor and James Medical.

     Good Luck!!

  • Do you need a regular OB or a high risk one? If you need a high risk one, I'd highly recommend Peter Wall at Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine.  LOVED him.  I can't say enough great things about him.

  • Loved my experience with Evergreen (both my OB and the NICU and PEDs units). A few of us twin mamas on here see Dr. Hyde at Evergreen Women's care - he is the reason I didn't have a c-section with my twins! While I was on bedrest I met all of the OBs at evergreen women's care and really liked them all. Good luck!

  • oh yeah, the NICU at Evergreen was fantastic!!

    Ditto this.

I highly recommend the book "When you're expecting twins, triplets or quads" by Dr. Luke.  It's THE book to have.

Depending on your twins type and risk level, you will either want an OB and a MFM (Dr. Wall, above is an MFM), or just an MFM.  Most twin moms have an OB and MFM.  I was so high risk that I just had an MFM, Dr. Wall.  Please don't let an OB tell you that you don't need to see an MFM.  It is really important that you do.  Eastside Maternal Fetal Medicine is a wonderful group of MFMs and they deliver at Overlake and Evergreen.   Evergreen is an amazing hospital, but there are quite a few other great ones around here too.  I would choose one with a Level III NICU, just in case.  My babies were in Evergreen for 3 weeks and nearly 6 weeks and they were amazing.

There are a lot of twin moms here, so I hope you find this board as a good resource!

Fully agree - I miss seeing Dr Wall!

  • I don't have a specific OB referral for you, but I hear Swedish in Seattle is great for high risk pregnancies.

  • You may need both an OB and a MFM.  Just because you have a multiple pregnancy does not mean that you will become high risk.  There are plenty of MoM's that are not considered high risk.  Although I had an MFM, I never was considered high risk.

We delivered at Swedish.  LOVED them!  I agree with Lynch, they are the best.  I also agree with Lynch that Minor and James OB rocks.  They were fantastic during my pregnancy and I saw the entire practice. I loved all the doctors.  Towards the end of my pregnancy I was there twice a week.  So I got pretty close to the entire staff.
