DD starts daycare on Monday

DH and I alternated taking her to the daycare for 30 minutes or so every day last week. We stayed with her, and it was so nice to see how things work, how the teachers keep up with all the babies, etc. DD LOVED looking at all the other babies. We bought some new clothes and new blankets (she needs pants and thin blankets), extra bottles and paci's, and the CUTEST labels from www.kiddotags.com.  I think we're ready! I'm feeling MUCH better about this than I thought I would!

Anyone else's LO in daycare? How is it going? Any tips?

  • It's so nice to hear that it made you feel better when you took her in for a bit at a time!  DS will begin in two weeks, but a week from now I may do the same as you, taking him for a bit and staying to observe or leaving for a bit to see how he does.  I just feel so sad that he is only 4 months and I have to leave him!  He will have 3 other babies with him and one full time teacher.  Sorry I don't have any tips, but I thought I would commiserate!

  • He will be starting in a month. Sad
  • My DD has been doing great in daycare.  No issues at all.  I had to go back to work when she was 9 weeks old.  We also did a little trial the week before she started.  I really like our daycare, they will do anything I ask regarding her, and they all gush over her.

  • It is going good. I was really worried since he can be a fussy baby but they seem better at keeping him stimulated and knowing when he needs a nap so he seems in a good mood there usually. He also has been sleeping and eating well which were two of my biggest concerns. My only tips are to prepare as much as possible the night before. I always get the bottles ready, labeled and packed into my mini cooler the night before and put it in the fridge. I also lay out what DS is going to wear as well as any extra outfits or other items I need to bring with me (or if it something big like diapers I put it straight in the car). I can't get the pump ready since I pump once before going to work but I try to have all the bottles laid out and ready. I usually will put in the bathroom my outfit and the bouncer. DH leaves much eariler than I do so everything that can be prepared makes it much easier when I am juggling DS on my own.

Thanks! I THOUGHT I prepared last night, but as I was getting ready this morning it was apparent that there were many more things I could do at night. It seemed like it took me forever to get everything together tihs morning! I think once I get into a good routine things will be fine.

Drop off this morning went well. I only got a little misty eyed, and didn't burst into tears until I was driving to work DH called to see how it went. I've checked on her on the webcam once, and all looked well. :)

  • they have a web cam?! you can just log on and peek in whenever!? that's awesome!

ditto the pp's advice about getting everything ready the night before. we did a gradual transition, too, and that really helped us.
