Crib being "investigated"

We went to BRU today and found a crib set that we loved.  It is the Babi Italia Eastside Classic style.  When we went to purchase it the lady said they can't sale it right now because it is being investigated.  When I asked why they said something about the screws or bolts.  The manager said it should be cleared soon and they would be a ble to sale it again, but to keep checking.  Have you ever heard of this?  I love the crib.  It isn't a drop side one. It makes me a little nervous though.

    New regulations were put in place July 1st I believe. It's probably just that they are making sure its up to the new standards and then it will be available!

    I called babies r us to order something for my crib when I had Darlene.  They told me they could not sell anything for the brand I had due to it being under testing and had to do with something about the paint.  It was done with in a few weeks and had to do with the slats not paint and cribs were recalled but not the one I had.

    Crap. I hope that lady was wrong. That's the crib we've got (from 2008) and we're planning on using it with DD. I know I registered it so I would hope they would have contacted us if there was a problem. Ugh.

    We picked out the same crib. BRU told me that is was being inspected due to the change in safety standards that occured on 6/28/11. Per her they did not get to inspect it prior to 6/28/11 so they pulled it to do the inspection - it will then be either put back on sale or recalled.

    I JUST got this crib and matching pieces and DH finished putting it together only about 2 weeks ago.  Funny no one at the store told us that new regulations were coming out any day (rolling my eyes)... if you find out more, please post!

    Update: I just called my local BRU and spoke at length to a manager in the furniture department.  She said the Babi Italia cribs were pulled from the floor because they were not pre-approved by the new safety standards and they need to go through testing for the new regulations.  The Eastside line is being tested for the size of the slats and the space between each slat.  The process can take a few weeks, and since it's not technically a recall, the customer will not be notified.  IF it fails the testing, it will be recalled and then consumers will be notified.  It is then up to the manufacturer to decide how to compensate the customer- a replacement crib, a voucher, a refund, etc... 

    She suggested I call back in a few weeks to see if it's been put back on the floor for sale yet, because that means it passed testing.  I also asked what the procedure would be for returning a recalled crib, since ours is already assembled and all packing was tossed.  She said that, although she's never experienced one through this company, usually they ask you to send in all the nuts and bolts to prove its disassembled and not in use so that you can get your reimbursement.  There's no WAY DH could lug all that stuff in pieces back to the store with no packaging and no help (my brother helped him move it all from store to house before brother left for the summer).

    One of the new regulations is that the manufacturer can't adjust the bolts or screws during the shake test phase. Use to they could and it would meet safety standards. Now unless cribs are new models, they have to be retested. Just precautions.

    Thanks for all the info!  I hope it isn't recalled.  That would be really frustrating if you had just put it together.  Plus I really love that one.  I will keep checking too.
