Allergic reaction to surgical glue?

I had a c-section 6 weeks ago, and at 4 weeks postpartum I started to peel the surgical glue away from my c-section incision. Ever since, the area is very itchy and has a rash around the exact area that the glue was. My doctor said it wasn't an infection, and just a rash.

Does anyone here have a similar exerience with surgical glue over a c-section incision or episiotomy incision? I'm not sure if this is just a fluke, or if I have an allergy to surgical glue.

Re: Allergic reaction to surgical glue?

  • I am allergic to the surgical glue that they use to keep the steri strips on, which I has the pleasure of finding out about with my first c/s. The moment they put it on my skin started to boil, which left behind a massive blister that ran the whole length of my insision, when that finally popped it itched and seeped clear liquid. I can't remember if I had a rash or not. I ended up putting prescription burn cream on it.

This time around to avoid that, my doctor did a traditional stitch, which increases your chances of infection, which I ended up getting. Both suck and I can't tell you which was worst, a massive blister or an infection for a week.
