I feel like a horrible mommy! =(

DD is getting so good at sleeping in her crib at night, she will even put herself to sleep sometimes if I put her down drowsy.  She is starting to go 7 hours between her bedtime bottle and early morning bottle.  This is nice since I go back to work on the 29th, I hope she continues this trend.  (Don't start hating on me just yet, it's only been 2 nights now!!!)

My biggest problem is naps during the day.  She doesn't want to go to sleep and fights it.  I have to put her to sleep and than she will only rest for about 30 minutes in her rocker with the snuggly car seat insert.  If I try to put her in the PnP or her crib, she wakes up after 5 minutes and starts crying hysterically.  This concerns me with daycare coming up since she starts PT on Monday to get used it/them before work starts up again.

So yesterday, I figured I needed to start getting her used to sleeping in a PnP/crib for naps and we went through the entire cry/sooth/sleep rinse and repeat scenerios.  So this morning, as we started again, I decided to try a swaddle blanket.  She HATES having her arms tied down and would cry if I swaddled her in the past, especially since she like to suck her thumb and hands to sooth herself.  Well, no sooner I swaddled her, she fell fast asleep!!!  I can't believe it, she has never liked this before.

I wonder what would happen if I swaddled her for bed?  This makes me a little hesitant because last night I found her awake in her crib at 2:30 happily sucking her thumb in the dark.  Hmmmmm, what to do...

Since the evenings seem to be fine the way they are, what about just swaddling for the daytime naps?

  • Yeah, I think you are right.  DH and I just tried it again for her 2nd nap and If she isn't mostly asleep, she freaks over being swaddled.  We will keep working on it and hopefully she will nap a bit better for daycare when the time comes!

  • My LO was the same way: hating being swaddled for sleep.  I've been getting terrible sleep co-sleeping with him because he wakes me up every two hours with his thrashing and rolling around (though he seems to sleep fine).  I finally swaddled him and he's STTN for the past two nights!  I'd say that if she can STTN or for extended periods of time being swaddled, then swaddle her.  My LO actually calmed down in the swaddle and he never did that before.

    You're not a bad mommy!
