warming up refrigerated BM

I think I saw somewhere that you have to mix it a certain way? How do I mix it up since it is seperated? And is there a certain way I should warm it?

This will be her first time do eat out of a bottle.

My DH & I are going to attempt to DTD and I'm going to have a couple Skinny Girl Margaritas. Wish me luck!

TIA :]

Re: warming up refrigerated BM

  • I hope I haven't been doing it wrong but we have a Munchkin warmer and I just take the bottle right out of the fridge and into the warmer then swirl the milk around in the bottle a few times before giving to DD.

  • I had been shaking mine like crazy until I read today not to! I don't have a warmer so we just set it in a cup of hot water until it's room temp. Then swirl to combine some.

  • I shake, why would this be bad? I also swirl.

I know if u shake to much you get bubbles perhaps thats why? If i get bubbles I let them set first anyway

  • My LC said shaking breaks up some of the proteins or something - she said swirling is better.

There's actually no concrete scientific evidence that shaking does anything bad.  Just like the fact that to really break down the good stuff in the breastmilk you'd have to microwave it to scalding which, of course, would be too hot to feed to LO anyway.

Just figured I'd put that out there.
