Two Under 2

Pregnant w/ almost toddler

So after reading the post below "Pregnant and taking care of LO"  I wonder if anyone has advise for a baby that is a little older.  My DD#2 is 10 mo and I just found out at the beginning of this month that I am pregnant again.  Being that she is mobile and wks away from walking how do I keep up with her and work out my issues... ie. sleep, nausea, etc.

Also any advise on weaning DD I made a commitment to make it to 1 yr, but with me being high risk for preterm labor and the jury still being out on BFing causing contractions not sure if i'm gonna make it the next 2 months or if doc will cut me off on Friday when I go for my first visit.

Re: Pregnant w/ almost toddler

  • My DD was 9 months old, when I found out that I was pg with DD2.  I napped, when she napped and that helped some.  I usually felt the crappiest around dinner time.  DH was home by then, so he could help with DD.  Since your DD is mobile, babyproof hardcore (this will come in handy, when you have 2u2 anyway).  It helps to have an area, where she can play, you can rest, and she can't get into trouble.

I had PTL with DD1, but they were able to stop it, so I didn't deliver early.  The midwife told me to wean soon (I think that was at my 11 week appt), but I didn't wean until DD1 was a year old (about 18 weeks pg).  I had sore nips, but I never felt any contractions.  I'd listen to your body, do your own research (Kellymom has some good articles about nursing while pregnant), and talk to your doc (a lot of doctors are misinformed, when it comes to nursing while pg).  As far as weaning goes, DD was already down to 3 nursing sessions per day.  I introduced whole milk at lunch to see if she'd drink it.  She guzzled it and didn't have any reactions.  The first nursing session I dropped was before her afternoon nap.  A week later, I dropped the before bedtime session.  At the same time, I stopped nursing her in the middle of the night.  She was upset for about two nights, but then started sleeping a ton better and eventually STTN.  The morning session was the last one I dropped and DD couldn't have cared less.

  • yeah DD#2 is about on the same nursing schedule and like I said I would like to make it to 1 yr which is more or less taking me through this month and August.  She will be 1 on 9/4.  I haven't had any issues with feeding her and any feelings of discomfort in the tummy so I believe all is well.

Thanks for the info I will do more research and make an informed decision from there.  But I think I can hold out for 1.5 more months.

Like you said DD is eating solids and I tested soy milk out on her the other day (as her dad and sis are Lactose intolerant I just go with the flow)  and she could care less if it was mommy milk.  But right when I get home I think it's just withdrawal from not seeing mommy all day she starts pulling at my shirt to feed, but only stays on like 5 mins and then runs off.  So i think that's just her mommy time :)

  • I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I BF till about 2 weeks ago when it just got to be too much. My nipples were really sore, it was draining all my energy and DS was just too distractable. It was making me miserable. DS weaned quickly and without issue and surprisingly I am so much happier now. I have babyproofed pretty much our entire house so DS can be where ever he likes (except the guest room) and I know he's safe.

First tri was hard, I made sure to nap when he did and made an extra special effort to go to bed early every night. Now that I'm in second tri it's a lot easier. I'm less tired (prob also due to weaning) and even though my stomach is getting bigger it's still fine to pick up and carry DS. I still wear him in the Ergo a bit, I can still throw him in the air.
