My Pal Scout/Violet

Ok, tell me about this toy.  It sounds like everyone's LOs love it.  I had it on my list for birthday or Christmas, but maybe I will go ahead and get it...someone talk me into it. Smile

Re: My Pal Scout/Violet

  • When we had a GTG back in June, Charlie loved Lainey's My Pal Violet, so I got him a Scout. Best $20 I've spent in a long time. You plug it into your computer via USB and program it on Leap Frog's website to learn your child's name and favorite food/color/animal. Then, you can pick songs, activities, and lullabys for it to play in addition to the stock ones that are automatic.

Charlie absolutely loves him and is learning how to press the buttons on the paws. I can tell he recognizes when he says his name because he looks at it and get excited. Turning on Scout is an instant attention getter.

The cool part is that unlike other toys that play music/talk, when you get sick of hearing the same songs over and over, you can go back online and swap them out. Leap Frog also offers seasonal songs and Happy Birthday that you can put on it throughout the year.

It's really cute.  You program it with your child's name, favorite color, food, animal, pick a bunch of "daytime" and "nighttime" songs.  Then the kid can press Scout's top two paws for different games and music with the interactive info you put in it.

Like one song is: "I'd like a [favorite animal] please, it's my favorite animal. I'd like it to be [favorite color] please, it's my favorite color. I'd like to feed it [favorite food] please, it's my favorite food.  And I'll call it [child's name] just like you."

Then there's a sleepytime paw that lets you play the music you picked for 2, 5 or 10 minute durations.

  • It's a soft cuddle-able toy that says your child's name, favorite color, favorite food and favorite animal. It puts that info into songs, talks to the child using his name, and even plays "bedtime music" for 5 minutes if you press his bottom paw.

    It's 20 bucks.

    Come on, that's amazing, right?

  • Also, now we sing the songs and replace it with stuff about him. Example:

I'd like a Xander please, that's my favorite baby. I'd like him to be cute, please, that's my favorite appearance! I'd like him give hugs, please, that's my favorite thing. And I'll call him Alexander because that's his name!

Well, I didn't say we were GOOD at making them up, haha.  But my point is, the songs are fun and we sing them all day.

    Ditto all the PPs.

And DH and I esp love this song.  It's so silly and doesn't really make sense.  Like LO's is "I'd like a monkey please... I'd like it to be orange... I'd like to feed it rice..."  LOL. But I love how it says "please" after every line, hehehe.

LOL! I know.  Ours is "I'd like a dog... I'd like it to be blue... I'd like to feed it avocados..."

  • My friend has one as a gift for her daughter and she doesn't like it. She showed it to me and I didn't hate it but didn't like it either. Just so you hear something from the other side of the story.

Yes, ours is a green dog who just loves to eat pears.

This!  We keep Scout on the changing table and use him to keep J still during diaper changes.

And it was pretty cute when DH was singing the Morning Song today...

  • It sounds cute, but I'm not sure my kid would like it.  I bought her a Fisher Price stuffed dog that says different things.  You press its hands, feet, ear, and it prompts music and for the dog to "talk."  Grace is scared to death of the thing.  She literally shakes when I pull it out of the closet and try to reintroduce it to her.  This toy sounds a bit similar. . . . .(except it does way more, of course)

  • My 2-1/2yo daughter got Violet when she turned 1.  She really liked it and so did my other kids.  Now once the newness wears off you might not use it that much - especially when your LO gets older.  We rarely play with it anymore - I'm thinking of reprogramming what it says to fit for Isaac even though it's purple - then we should get some more use out of it.  I say it's a great gift - but you could always wait until X-mas to get it.

  • J actually lunged for his the other day when I carried him into his room.  He loves it.

My fave song is: Me and my pal, Jackson.  We like to do everything together...

And now all of the songs are stuck in my head.

Yes we sing this all the time too! I love a whole thread about these songs! We're a green giraffe drinking milk.

  • griffin got the frog one from leap frog which is basically the same thing for christmas.  we opened it up when he was about 2 months old and he would stare at it lol.  now he loves it since he can squeeze the hands and feet to make it talk.

a few months ago i bought my pal scout since griff loved the frog so much.  he loves staring at the collar light up and laughs when it says his name.  it makes me laugh cause i programmed it to say his fav food was cheeseburgers and his fav animal were manatees lol.  i think i paid $25 canadian and it was totally worth it.  he will be able to play with it for years.

  • Avery also loves Scout. Even when he is grumpy and Scout's not around, I sing the songs and he immediately gives me a gummy grin :)

  • J loves his Scout!! He got it for a X'mas present from his Aunt.

"I'd like an elephant, please, it's my favorite animal. I'd like it to be blue, that's my favorite color. I'd like it  to eat bananas, that's my favorite food. And I'll call it Jack, just like you."

I sing that damn song all day long!

  • BabyCakes! That's hilarious! I'm changing ours, too :)

  • Ok, so tell me why "puppy biscuits" is listed as an option for LO's favorite food...

  • Those of you who sing the songs on your own, do you put the pause in there?

Like "I'd like....a dog! please!  it's my favorite animal.  I'd like it to be ...BLUE! please! It's my favorite color!"

Or are H and I the only ones?

We also say B's name the way the dog does, which sounds like a question..  "Me and my pal... Ben? We like to do everything together!"

Given the fascination my child has with the dogs' bowls, this really isn't that far out there....

  • We got violet back in February. LO has loved it since the moment she got. It was one of the few toys that got her to laugh and smile.

We don't bring it out as much now but she still enjoys it.

Best 20 bucks we spent too!

  • I love My Pal Violet. It is so cute. MH and I crack up every time it says her favorite food is oatmeal. Hilarious.

I'm definitely getting my money's worth because we use it for bedtime and naps now. I'm hoping it will eventually condition her to fall asleep as soon as she hears it.

Yes, absolutely!  Chris-TIAN?  Too funny.  We also like Scout's really southern sounding voice when he gets the hiccups.  We're southern too so I guess we know it when we hear it.
