Capital Women's Care

Hey everyone!

I was hoping to reach out to the ladies that go to Capital Women's Care. Dr D delivered my daughter last year and i was wondering if they normally do a sonogram at the first (8wk) appt? I didn't start my last pregnancy off with them, so i'm unfamiliar with how they go about it. Of course i'm hoping for a sono!

If no one knows, i can always shoot them a quick phone call tomorrow. :) Thank you for your time!

Re: Capital Women's Care

  • I go to Capital Women's Care, but there are several different offices, and I'm guessing you don't go to mine, because there's no Dr. D there. But my doctor did a sonogram at my first appointment.

  • I don't know which CWC you go to, but I go to Alexandria. They did an u/s at my 8-week appt. We already knew I was pregnant with twins at that point and had an u/s with my RE a few days before, but CWC did one anyway and made it sound like it was routine, just so they could confirm the pregnancy and make sure there weren't any cysts, an ectopic pg, or anything else funky.
  • I go to the Capital Women's Care on Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax.  They did a "confirmation of pregnancy/dating" ultrasound at my first appointment.  I got the sense that they do this at all first appointments unless you've had an ultrasound someplace else first (e.g., RE).

I had already had one ultrasound before seeing them and they said that it wasn't necessary for them to do one since I already had one, but I asked for one anyway because I had had some spotting and they said it was no problem.

  • Thank you all for your help! I go to the Fair Oaks office (and occasionally the one on Rte50). I was talking to a friend yesterday who said that her OB (which isn't CWC) didn't take an ultrasound at her first appt and it had me a bit skeeved.

    Thanks again!

  • I go the Fair Oaks office too.  It is my understanding that they typically have you wait until about 12 weeks to do the first ultrasound (at least that is what I was told when I called to tell them I was pregnant - which was already confirmed my family doctor).  I had some complications early on and they ended up doing an ultrasound before the scheduled 12 weeks.
  • Thanks so much for your reply. It seems irresponsible to me to not do an ultrasound that would rule out any issues that would otherwise go unnoticed. I'll give them a call on Monday to see if they do it, and if not, i'll request one. If that still doesn't work, then i'll switch practices. They are way too pro-c-section for me anyway.
  • I delivered my guys with the CWC Fair Oaks / Fairfax office Dec 2010 ... they did an u/s at my first appt at 7.5 weeks to confirm pregnancy, where we actually found out it was twins.  They did another at 13 weeks in the office and then the rest were at Fairfax Radiology.  Loved them, especially Dr S & Dr D

  • That's great! Congrats to you! I really wish they'd book me earlier...i have to wait til 9 weeks because i'll be out of town my 8th week. I asked if they could take me when i was 7wks4days (the last office day i'm in town), but receptionist told me it was too early :( Dr. D is great - she delivered my daughter in May 2010!

When i call to confirm the sono on Monday, i'll also ask again for them to book me earlier :) I'm totally THAT girl...

  • Just to follow up, i called them this morning and they do perform a sonogram at the first appointment (8-10weeks). I also asked if they could schedule me at 7w4d -since i'll be on vacation my 8th week and seeing as how i'm showing (read: bloated as hell) it'll be impossible not to confess -, but they said it was too early. So, i'm keeping my 9w appt. *Sigh*

    But at least there's a sonogram :)
