LO was diagnosed with MSPI as a newborn. He had GI issues (lots of gas, and mucous and blood in stools). I was EBF, so I cut dairy and soy out my diet, and he did fine. I was able to reintroduce both into my diet at 9 months. Now we're trialling him on dairy (cheese and yogurt) and it hasn't been easy to figure out if he still has an intolerance or allergy. Part of the problem is we can only really test things on weekends, because he goes to daycare during the week.
Week 1 - We gave him a small amount of yogurt and he was extremely irritable and had bad gas. But he also ate beans that weekend, so I don't know if it was due to the beans or the dairy.
Week 2 - We gave him a smaller amount of yogurt and he seemed fine, except his stools were a little looser than normal (but not abormally so).
This weekend will be week 3. Do we try again? At what point do we ask for a referral to an allergist?
Re: I feel like a food detective. WWYD?
the loose stool makes me think he's lactose and intolerant. (my unprofessional opinion).
Not sure what you do if you are Lactose & Intolerant other than avoid, but they have L&I milk so maybe try that? i would ask your pedi first.
In the mean time, it wouldn't hurt getting a test.. you just never know and there is nothing better than following your gut feeling.
