When my mom was a baby, her mother found her, completely blue, with their family pet cat curled up across her neck. I have two cats and am a little more than paranoid about this.
I've been given a few ideas of how to keep cats out but wondered - if you have cats, what have you done/what do you plan to do?

I never did anything. Biscuit wasn't a big fan of Noah at first. Now they are the greatest friends - but at the start she would spend most of her day on our bed. She didn't even go near Noah until he was 4[ish] months! lol! Before Noah came she spent ALL of her time in his crib!
The pedis that I interviewed all said that nothing of the sort really happens - your mom must have been the exception! Sounds so scary for her mom! Good Luck!
I'm so glad you asked this. I am terrified of our cats doing something similar. They love to cuddle and I'm afraid they won't understand that they can't do that with LO.

Our cat isn't that interested in DD. She'll sniff her, but that's as close as she's going to go. Which is interesting, as our cat is super friendly and loves to cuddle.
First, see how the cats will react...you may have cats that want nothing to do with your LO, and this question will probably becaome a mute issue.
Once DD starts sleeping anywhere besides next to me, then I'll close the door to her room when I'm not around and she's sleeping.
FWIW: the cat loves to sit in DD's bassinet/RNP/PNP...but only when DD is not in there. Oh, the cat is too fat to jump into the crib. Too high up for her.

When ds was born we contemplated putting a screen door for his room! We never did but we thought about it.
What we did was just kept the door closed, we started this before he was born so they would get used to not going into that room. If ds was sleeping in our bedroom in the cradle, we would keep our door closed and the cats out. We never had a problem.
