So DH and I started TTC and DS is 6.5 months old now. Are there any things you wish you'd known/done before getting pregnant with LO#2? Anything I can do now to prepare myself for when we actually get pregnant with LO#2?
Also, DS doesn't STTN yet and we are right in the middle of moving homes, so maybe I'm just crazy for wanting to get pregnant right now ![]()
Re: Anything I should know beforehand?
Dont overthink it. I was second guessing my decision after DS was born but I'm glad we stuck with the original plan to have them close. DS didnt STTN when I was PG either, but as long as you have a helpful partner, you will survive.
Whether you do it 15 months apart or 22 months apart, it's not going to make a difference past the first year. Just go for it whenever it works best for your family.
FWIW, having kids close in age has been so much easier than I thought. In my head it was a lot harder than the reality has been.
Well DS has been a pretty easy baby (except for the not STTN part, lol). I am getting pretty good at the sleep deprivation thing since I don't let DH wake up during the night with DS. I figure it would be much harder for him to get no sleep since he has to go to work during the day and I am just a SAHM.
I am actually excited to be able to go through labor again (I had a super easy, pain med free labor with DS - I'm not sure it even counted as "labor"
), but I'm a little worried about the pregnancy part. I ended up having preterm labor with DS and was on full bedrest from 26 weeks on - I have no idea what I will do if that happens this time while I have DS to take care of
I talked to my OB in May about TTC and she said she thought I was crazy but that there wasn't anything to be concerned about.
The part I'm most worried about is postpartum recovery if we get pregnant with LO#2. DS was 9lbs7oz and I ended up having a severe 3rd degree episiotomy and was stitched up in 3 different layers with like a million stitches. That was a rough recovery
I guess these things don't bother me that much, though, since I'm really anxious to get pregnant again, lol.
Personally, I wouldn't want to TTC without the first STTN yet...that would make me crazy haha. But we were back at the RE by the time DD1 was 9 mos old and so far (granted, this is still an inside baby) I've been really happy with the spacing. I do have a few concerns with DD1 being so independent and mobile (it's going to SUCK running after her with a newborn), but I'm sure we'll deal. I wouldn't really have wanted them so close that DD1 wasn't walking yet, either, so I guess that's the trade-off.
As far as pre-term labor, look into 17P shots...they are very effective at keeping PTL at bay in subsequent pregnancies. There are tons of girls on the preemie board on them (it's a weekly shot), I know they'd be happy to answer any of your questions. Actually, there are probably ladies on the high risk board on them, too.
