Crazy Kicker - Need advice!

Hey all :)

This is my first time posting on here so I just wanted to say hi first :) It is my first pregnancy and my husband and I are both very excited!

Anyways, I am 23 weeks preggers and my little one is kicking SO much! She flips constantly and kicks one side, then the other, then I get these sharp pains in my back that my doctor says is her kicking me there too, lol. So I can't seem to get a nights rest. I am exhausted all the time and keep unintentionally snapping at my poor hubby :( I tried using pillows stuffed all around me to get in the most comfortable position, but then baby moves around and I have to arrange everything again. Justin (my DH) has tried giving me massages to get more relaxed and sleep, but I still can't sleep past one of Sophie's kicking sessions. Nothing seems to be helping me sleep and I am waking every one to two hours, at best I can sleep four hours before being woken up with the thumping.

Don't get me wrong, I love feeling my precious Sophie letting me know she exists and is very healthy and strong, I just NEED sleep, lol, any advice?

  • First lesson of parenthood: Learning to sleep through the night...  Think of it as rehearsal for when baby is here, baby will make noises but you need to learn to differentiate them.  In this case, baby is making kicks, and you need to differentiate that you're just learning to sleep with another person in the bed with you...  Hard as it is, try to put it out of your mind and let yourself sleep through it!

  • My LO was like this around 20 weeks and still is VERY active. Honestly, you just get used to it. It used to keep me awake but it has been happening so frequently for so long now that it has become normal and I can sleep through it. The only advice I can give you is not to eat anything sweet close to bedtime, it usually stirs LO up and gets him kicking! Also, if you haven't invested in a body pillow I would highly recommend! I don't know how I slept through the night without one!

  • That is just how it is.  Embrace and love that feeling because there is nothing like it.  She will be here soon!

Never mind, a friend of mine sent me this link :) cause it's not just the kicking, it's everything in combination with the kicking that keeps me up, lol

  • Must be the name... My little girl (will be named Sophia) has been kicking like crazy the past 3 days. By the end of the day I feel like I ran a marathon!

So strange, my little girl's name is Sofia.  She came out kicking too.
