Possible dairy allergy/intolerance?

Within the past few weeks, DS has been doing a weird inhale, gasp type thing.  It is really hard to explain.  I saw on here where someone posted something similar and thought I'd look into dairy allergies more.

DS has always had pimples since he was about 3 weeks old.  He was BF until 9 weeks and people always told me that it was from my hormones & not to worry.  He still gets them now, even on formula.

He has horrible gas.  Like, he could clear a room and it is all.day.long.

He still spits up almost daily and he's 7 1/2 months.

I feel like a horrible mom if he does have an allergy or intolerance and it has gone unnoticed.  I called the pedi today and we have an appointment scheduled for Saturday morning.

So what do you ladies think?  Possible allergy or am I just jumping to conclusions?  Sometimes I think the internet can do more harm than good. TIA

ETA: he also has really dry skin and scratches all the time too.  Pedi said he didn't think it was eczema, but never tested him for it.

  • Is the gas and spitting up hurting him? Does he spend his day cranky? Arching his back alot? I think if anything maybe he has acid reflux.  Honestly, it doesn't sound like an allergy to me.

  • My DS has a suspected dairy/lactose intolerance.  We did a milk challenge with him and he had horrible gas, cramping, diarreha for 5 days after having a total of 18 oz of lactaid over the course of 2 days.  DS does have bad reflux and stopped nursing at 3 months old because he cried so much when nursing, arched his back, gagged, and spit up all day long.  He was also covered head to toe with eczema and was violently projectile vomiting and gagging 4-5 times per week.  We switched him to soy formula....turns out he is allergic to soy also.  Not sure if your LO has an allergy but don't feel too bad.  DS went an entire year eating/drinking foods that made him very ill before we realized and our pedi took us seriously. I would talk to your pedi about your concerns....maybe they could switch formulas and see if he improves.

  • first of all, don't feel like you're a terrible mom.  You're researching and figuring it out.

What formula is he on?  can you switch him for 2 weeks and see how it goes?  Perhaps put him on alimentum for couple of weeks and see if his gas and skin gets better.
