Hi girls- I'm just about 5 weeks pregnant and a vary avid runner/workout.
Since I got bfp I have done the same workout but now I'm starting ti feel scared about the weight gain as I may feel a little bloated.
It's almost as I'm scAred as he'll as I'm so proud of my muscular workout body!
I need some inspiration - howuch total weight did those that workout/ran gain?

I gained around 27 pounds and worked out until the day my water broke.
I saw pregnancy as an excuse to relax and eat whatever I wanted.
I gained 48, 38 & 54 lbs with my 3 babies.
Also, be prepared to be flexible. I wish you a healthy, easy pg, but I was thrown a curve ball when I developed 2 pg induced hernias mid-way through. The hernias put a BIG damper on my exercise routine (I had to cut it WAY back) and it sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck!
I am an avid runner too and I either would run 5 miles or do 50 minutes of cardio and then some weights 5-6 days a week. That said, I stopped running around 16 weeks b/c of the cramping. I kept up with the 50 minutes of cardio and normal weight routine until 34 weeks when I was having a lot of contrax and Dr. asked me to stop. I then just walked 40 minutes per day and I feel great at 38.5 weeks. I have gained approximately 30lbs and I have maintained a healthy diet.
Your body is going to gain whatever it needs to even if you eat healthy and work out. It will also dictate what you are going to need to do, I thought I would run til the end or at least work out hard until the end but my body and Doc said no, so I had to change it up. That is fine, it is about the baby now, not me.
You are just going to have to go with the flow and let your body dictate what you can and can't do.

I'm 4 weeks PP and back to my pre preg weight. I gained 25#, worked out 5x week up to delivery and ate healthy (occasionally splurged too!). Please don't worry about weight gain, it's easy to get back to your normal weight after the baby.
This is all great advice. I know it's hard to watch the scale climb and your body change but you just have to roll with it.
FWIW, I stopped running at 24w but am continuing to exercise regularly. at 28w I'm +12 lbs.
I'm not a runner but I exercised regularly and gained 29 pounds before giving birth at 36 weeks, but honestly I ate almost the exact same thing for months in a row and some weeks I would gain nothing and then the next week gain 6 pounds. A lot is water, a lot is baby, and a lot is out of your control. Eat nutritious foods, listen to your body, and try not to stress out too much.
Your body will change but it's ok. A lot depends on genetics but I'm confident that I could be fitter right now than pre-pg if I could just get some sleep. Basically, I'm back to pre-pg weight but softer than before. With a few nights of rest (which I may never get) some more protein and weight training you'd never know I had a baby. It can be done.
Really, HAVING a baby has impacted my body way more than pregnancy did because my high maintenance baby makes exercising and eating right very challenging.
Also keep in mind that it is possible to get your body back after birth. This varies greatly from person to person, but in the months after giving birth I was the thinnest I've ever been. With DS I gained 27 pounds, was back to my pre-pregnancy weight at my 6 week app, and lost an additional 20 pounds in the months that followed. This was all due to BF and probably good genetics. Again, every person is different but don't be discouraged to see your body change drastically during pregnancy. Your weight will go up and your muscle tone will change but this doesn?t mean you cant ever get this back.
With DD I gained 28 lbs. and had her at 38.5 weeks. She was 8 lbs. 15 oz.
With DS I gained 32 lbs. and had him at 41.5 weeks. He was 9 lbs. 12 oz.
I worked out at least 6 days a week with DD including the day before she was born.
I taught at least 5 group fitness classes per week in addition to other workouts with DS. I taught Bodypump the day I was 41 weeks with him.
I think the real benefit was how fast my body snapped back.
I worked out nearly every day til the day my water broke, and ate very healthy. Still gained 35 lbs, and my daughter only weighed a little over 5 lbs! But I was shocked at how quickly I bounced back--i nursed for a year, and then after weaning, lost even more weight because my appetite plummeted. I exercise less now and still look way better than I would've ever thought I would given the circumstances. THe point I'm trying to make is regardless of how healthy you eat and how much you exercise, just roll with the punches and accept the way you look. You're pregnant and beautiful no matter how much you end up gaining. If you stay healthy, odds are you'll have a quicker and easier time getting back to the body you enjoy right now.
But remember, as PPers said, it's not all about you. I remember being 5 weeks pregnant and having our mindset, but as your pregnancy progresses, you'll probably stop worrying about it so much as the realization that you have real person inside you materializes, and you direct that concern to your baby.
With Sarah, I gained 12 lbs and ran daily until I delivered. I lost it all when I gave birth. With this baby, I gained 7 lbs so far and I am running every day.
I was lean and muscular pre-pg..worked out 5-6 days a week w/ hard cardio and heavy lifting.
I gained 28 lbs. during pg and it was pretty steady. It plateaued around 39 weeks and DS was born at 41w1d - 7 lbs., 14.5 oz. I worked out throughout my pregnancy but adjusted as necessary. As I got further along (and even in the 1st tri due to nausea & fatigue), I had to reduce intensity and that was fine. Whatever baby needed, I gave him.
I ate lots of loaded salads (tons of healthy veggies, plus lean proteins and healthy fats), whole grains, fruits, lean dairy, and ice cream
(bad heartburn). My approach was just to try to eat well most of the time but to indulge when I wanted to.
I lost all but 8 lbs. by three weeks pp. Most of the gained weight was baby, placenta, extra blood, and lots of retained water. I started walking at two weeks pp and went back to the gym once I got cleared at six weeks pp.
Right now it's hard to fit exercise in since I work full time, have LO, have DH, and have to make dinner and sleep at some point. I'm only 5-8 lbs. above pre-pg weight, though. I'm 5'6 and about a size 6 whereas I used to be a size 2-4 pre-pg. I think that's fine for 12 weeks pp. Once I learn to balance everything better, I should be able to get back into my normal clothes and back into a pretty good workout routine.
My advice is what pp's said: keep working out and eating well, listen to your body and give it slack when it needs it. If you need to slow down, slow down. If you need to eat more, eat more. Drink plenty of water to minimize bloating. Work out your arms, you'll appreciate having toned pregnancy arms. Once your belly pops, you will probably feel less fat and feel more cute. Enjoy it!
Once baby is born, don't skimp on the food - just make good choices and allow some treats.

I was a little heavy to start with and gained 30 pounds during my pregnancy without working out much and just watching what I ate. With breastfeeding, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight two weeks after my son was born. I am now 15 pounds below that and still losing and my son is 5 weeks.
Breastfeeding is just as beneficial for Mom as it is for baby.
