Pregnant after 35

appointment today - no baby, eviction papers served...

baby is still positioned high - not much change there.  Cervix is still at 1cm - no change there.  NST showed he's still comfy and doing well - no cause for alarm.  But we're planning on an induction on Saturday.  We're going to try med-free induction meaning OB will break my water and make his comfy home a little less comfy and hopefully send my body into labor.  Meanwhile I'm hoping a full moon tomorrow might coax him out.

But Sunday at the latest, we'll have an outside baby!

  • Can I ask why you are inducing at all? I'm not judging, I am just curious.
  • I don't blame you for wanting to induce at this point.....41 weeks is long enough for any mommy to be.  We don't see it as being a big deal until we can't sleep, eat or move without difficulty.

Best wishes in your planned induction!!!

Fair question!  I would ask the same!

Reason #1 is because I trust my doctor - she's VERY anti-intervention and yesterday was the first mention of induction (at fully 41 weeks).

Reason #2 is because there's been zero progress - baby hasn't dropped, shows no signs of dropping and my 1cm cervix has stayed that way for roughly 5 weeks now.  My body is showing no signs of going into labor on it's own.  My last baby (nearly 16 years ago) was the same - he was induced at 42 weeks.

There just comes a time (for the doctor to decide) that the placenta starts to break down and the fluid level drops and the baby is better off being born than staying in the "breaking down" uterus.  We chose the weekend to give my body a few more days to go into labor on it's own...but barring that, we're going for the med-free induction on Saturday.

  • Good luck. I hope he makes an appearance on his own, but at least you have a date to look forward to.
  • Good luck, and I hope you get some good labor going before then!  Either way, yay for meeting your new baby!

  • Best of luck with the induction or (hopefully) baby coming out on his own.  Can't wait to see the pictures!  You'll be missed on the board... Btw, did you ever hear that when you get a pedicure, you're supposed to tell the technician not to massage the back of your calves (I think the part close to your foot) or it can induce labor?  Sounds crazy to me but, just a thought, and it's not the worst way to spend your waiting time.

  • Thank you for the info, you hear so many things about doctors wanting to induce when it isn't completely necessary at 39 or 40 weeks. So it is good to hear an example of an instance when it is.
  • Here's thinking happy labor day!!
