Lol at answering your own question. In addition to drinking more try stretching before bed by pulling your toes up toward your head. If you wake up and feel crampy the instinct is to point your toes and stretch but don't do it, again flex your toes toward your head. That one is hard since you are usually mostly asleep. Also, make sure the sheets at the foot of your bed are loose so you don't sleep with your toes pointed.
I have been getting them a bit lately. The first time it was after a 3.5 hour road trip and I think I should have gotten out and stretched midway. The other times I think it was dehydration.
I have gotten them too . One night was extremely bad it was the worst charlie horse ever. I keep my feet elevated now whenever i am sitting or relaxing( which isn't that much!) That has helped. I also eat more bananas.
My doctor said it was due to sleeping on your back. A major artery gets compressed, cutting off oxygen supply to your leg muscles. so if you find yourself waking up on your back, that may be the cause. I try sleeping on my side but always toss and turn so I end up on my back. He suggested keeping a pillow on your side so that if you roll over onto your back you stay tilted to one side so at least there's not too much pressure.
Re: Leg cramps
- Not having enough potassium, calcium, and other minerals in your
blood.
- Being
dehydrated, which means your body has lost too much
fluid.
So the baby is sucking more of my minerals and water.I only get them when I stretch out. But I also eat a lot of bananas and I know the potassium helps.
You asked what it's a sign of? Pregnancy. LOL
