So, I'm not a very regular visitor to my sewing machine. I was almost done with my nursing cover, when my machine started to jam. It seems like the upper thread is knotting up in the bobbin mechanism somehow, but it is not involving the bobbin thread in its fvchery. Any ideas what it is and how I can get it to stop?

I can count the number of times that I've used it on one hand. Or three fingers. I did taking a costume making class in college, and made an A+, so I was hoping that I could at least make things like nursing covers and other square pieces of hemmed fabric.
I have no idea how to help you, but thank you so much for the laugh. You should've seen me over here trying to figure out why you were asking about sewers (the toilet kind).

I'm sure that I spelled it wrong...but my sewing right now is garbage so I'll leave it as is.

Hahaha, me too!
When I fight with my machine I make my husband look at it
My first guess is your tension is off - check the tension on your previous stitches - is the thread even on both sides or does it pull to one side more than the other?
If that looks okay, when did you last oil your machine? Is your needle sharp?
Do you have the right sized bobbin? For years my machine would go nuts after an hour of sewing. I bought a bunch of new bobbins and noticed they were slightly smaller - and never had the problem again - but that's hopefully not the case for you!
When in doubt I walk away for a couple hours and try again later. Maybe the machine is just tired?
Good luck!
Now put the dust cover on and glare at the machine for misbehaving! Glad you got your nursing cover done. PIP?
I thought the same thing.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
I think the word you are looking for is seamstress.
LOL. Me too.
I usually just scream at it for a while and then threaten to hit it with a baseball bat (which would require me to procure one) or throw it away. Then I walk away. If it's constantly unthreading itself, there's likely nothing wrong with it unless it's not a Singer. They're known for constantly unthreading themselves.
I agree, though, with the other girls on adjusting tension. You can try it on a scrap to see if you have adjusted it correctly. If the needle change isn't fixing everything, it's likely a tension issue. Sometimes it helps to remove everything from the bobbin compartment and blow it out (to get the dust out) and use that brush thing that comes with the machine to brush it out.
I really don't have anything new to add, but wanted to thank you for giving me a good laugh because I can totally relate to what you're going through!
My initial thought was similar to PPs: possibly a tension issue.
Beyond that, here is the level of my troubleshooting sophistication: 1. Swear like a sailor. 2. Change needle. (Which you did & seemed to help...YAY!) 3. Dismantle bobbin case & brush out (also mentioned above). 4. Oil whatever parts the manual says you're supposed to oil (which are almost never oiled, despite the guide's recommendations; this was also mentioned above).
If none of these work, you could maybe look up your make & model online & see if there are any troubleshooting tips or customer service #s you could try.
GL & I agree that we must see PIPs!!!
I thought the same thing! Then I was wondering if you meant the word "sue," and I thought, "Is she asking if anyone on here has sued anyone before?" Haha! Gotta love our English language!
