Who needs a binky anyway?!

I was so strongly opinionated that DD#1 would NOT have a binky. I eventually broke down and let her have one because I was done being her human pacifier!

This time, I stocked up before Avery was born! And she will not take any kind of binky that I tried! I was so worried after having one child who took one, I was afraid of situations in which they were so helpful, and what would I do!?

Now she has mastered sucking her thumb!!! I'm such a happy mama!

Just had to share!

Re: Who needs a binky anyway?!

  • Yeah, I too was totally against the pacifier.  Then I BECAME the pacifier and changed my mind.  However, Viv will not take any kind of binkie and we've tried them all.  Just gags, spits and cries.  I can't wait for the day when she figures out where her thumbs or fingers are!

  • The thumb sucking has been wonderful!

She sucked her thumb for 45 minutes in the car ride to my moms house the other day!!! Without it, we would have had to stop, and I did not want to stop with a cranky 2 year old in the car!

I hope you lo figures out her self soothing soon too!

  • I'm going to be the downer on this one.  I have a kid that sucks her thumb and one that used a binkie.  That said...we are trying to avoid a second thumb sucker.  It's not so easy to take a thumb away.

  • I am totally open to DD taking a paci and she won't!  God help me, I'm the human pacifier again which after DS I said I wouldn't do...but I don't know how to avoid it.  *sigh*

Debbie Downer here, too. I'm glad that she's found a way to soothe, but thumbs are almost impossible to break. Good luck to you, whatever may come.

I know, but somehow the break right now is better than the possible years of thumb sucking to come! I have heard horror stories from family members too, but somehow it just doesn't matter when you just need a break!

fwiw, I was a thumb sucker and I stopped before kindergarden. And it wasnt a traumatic event at all.  I'd be ok with DD taking either a thumb or a paci, occasionally she'll take a paci for breif amount of time, and sometimes she'll find her fist. Who knows which she'll choose, but lets hope she chooses soon!

    My overly happy baby girl!
