Swings and Pack n Plays ??

FTM here! We live in a condo so I am trying not to get things that are too big....

Do you think a swing is necessary? And if so how long did you use it?

Did you get a pack n play with a newborn napper? We plan on having the baby in the room for a little while. I am not sure if it is best to have the napper or if the baby can just lay in there?

Thank you for your feedback!

Re: Swings and Pack n Plays ??

  • both were absolutely necessary for us.

he still takes 99% of his naps in his swing, and it's a great place for him to hang out when i'm trying to get some housework done. we have the ftp snugabunny. it's big, but our living room is already overrun by baby stuff so it doesn't matter.

DS slept in the PnP newborn napper for the first 4 weeks. then the normal mattress of the PnP until 10 weeks, and it's still what we use for trips. the napper was awesome in the very beginning, he HATED the normal PnP mattress until he hit that 4 week mark.

  • Swing - absolutely necessary - for most kids.  I thought I didn't need it, but luckily purchased one a few weeks before DD was born.  It was the only place, other than on us, that she would nap for MONTHS.  We used the swing until she was at least 6 months old (less as she got older).  We then sold it for half it's value on Craigslist!

The PnP I didn't really need - we tried the bassinet part for DD to sleep in for the first few weeks - FAIL.  She hated it.  DH put her in the crib at 4 weeks, and we have an EXCELLENT sleeper on our hands.  I wish we had used the crib from day 1.

We use the PnP to go to the ILs and on trips, though.

  • Both were necessary for us & we live in a 1BDRM apt. Prretty much like PP, DS took naps in his swing or it was a good spot to put him while trying to do some housework. We got ours @OnceUponAChild, the FP Rainforest. We actually used a basssinet when he was born & had on occassion used that napper part of the PnP which both worked out well. A PnP is also great for naps, travel, or when they become mobile to put them in if you need to do something (shower, clean house).

  • We didn't use the swing, he hated it. This seems to be very unusual for babies, though.  As for the newborn napper - it's not a necessity, but it was nice to not have to bend over so far.
Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
  • Swing was a lifesaver. Eventually, it was the ONLY place that she would nap.
