ladies with IUDs

Please someone tell me their experience wasn't that bad. I have to take lo with me, everyone I trust is working. I'm so nervous after reading the post below. Lo gets hip shots the day before too and my dh has a super important meeting all day. Someone tell me it isn't that bad...

Re: ladies with IUDs

  • Which one are you getting? I got Mirena and it really wasn't bad. It was pretty uncomfortable when she was putting it in, but totally fine afterwards.

  • i have the paraguard. When I got it put in there was alot of cramping for a couple of hours but I took ibuprophen right before they put it in. I would definitely take some tylenoll or ibuprophen about an hour before you go in. Not saying it will take the pain of cramping away but it will take the edge off a little

  • I had Mirena put in between kids and it was NO big dealio at all. Barely felt it - just some pressure. They told me to take 800 mg (yes, 4 pills) of Motrin beforehand. So I plan to this time around, too. I'm not worried in the least.
  • It wasn't bad at all. Getting the IV put in at the hospital was worse. I was overly-sensitive to the pain because of what I had read as well. It was really nothing.
  • Yea, see no one told me to take anything before hand, and I was expecting it to be as uncomfortable as getting membranes swept, but my Dr's nurse was so slow and unprepared it took longer than I think it was supposed to take. Thus my "discomfort" was prolonged and I had the speculum and scissor things in my vag for like 20min. I feel better today though. Take some pain med before and take some with you too. I had LO with me and she slept through till the end, I nursed her after and it made us both feel better. I'm sorry I scared you, but I had to let people know since no one told me. Everyone's different maybe you will have a better nurse, or higher pain tolerance than me.

  • I have a Mirena IUD and barely felt it.  My MW told me to take 800 mg of ibuprofen an hour before the appointment and she had it in in less than 5 minutes.  I had very mild cramping.

It's okay, I'd rather know, I just wish I didn't have the baby with me for it. I hope he sleeps. I'll take pain meds before and bring some with me too.

  • I just had mine put in today. the Dr had issues so I had to have put in twice in 10 minutes... And I had no pain. I would say it felt weird but no pain. I was terrified by below post as well. So far it's been 3 hours and no cramping so we will see what happens.
