When did ya'll start working on potty training your boys? All of a sudden, Charlie's been climbing on the toilet seat and saying POTTY. So he knows what it is, at least.

I think we started somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 with L. We'd made good progress right around his 3rd birthday and he was dry most of the time. But his kidneys failed right around that time and didn't pee on dialysis, so we had to retrain him at 5 after his transplant. I'm no help!
You could try seeing if he wants to sink boats (a tp square) or use the color change tabs that are for PT. He was really into those. The girls are totally gummi bear driven. Let him sit naked on it before bathtime with a book, it's a relaxed way to start.
Oh- almost forgot...can he stand on one foot well yet?? I know it's a weird question to ask, but L's urologist said that they are physiologically ready to hold it, and start and stop their pee. Same muscle group being used for both. Otherwise before that you're working on elimination communication and catching their cues to know when they have to go. And you have to be quick before you get peed on!
We've been letting DS sit on the potty and teaching him to keep his penis pointed down but nothing has occurred. But familiarity with and comfort with the potty is the first step. If he poops, we also go to the potty and throw the poop in and flush it down to emphasize the whole "poop belongs in the potty" thing. We've also taken this time to talk about how only pee, poop and bits of toilet paper go in the potty. It will usually take another 6 mos to a year for the real PTing to begin.
