little miss used a drop side crib, but it's been in storage for about 2 years now.
with the little sir arriving soon, he will be in a co-sleeper for a while in my room, but once we decide to put up the crib in his room, should I use my drop side crib?
I think this is just mommy paranoia. but seriously, you can't resell them, you can't buy them, should I just screw some solid bolts into it so it just doens't drop anymore, and if so, I'm 5ft4 on a good day, how do I get the baby into the crib??
ugh.
Re: reusing my drop side crib for baby #2? yes or no?
We have a drop-side crib (I know, I know, I also let him sleep on his tummy since he was little so you can go ahead and cancel my mom-of-the-year nomination). It's a Pali crib, none of which were ever recalled, that was bought for our niece originally. The way the drop side mechanism on my crib works is an entirely different design than all the recalled cribs, the crib side does not move out at all, it only slides up and down. There is NO way for a child to get trapped in my crib, so I feel perfectly safe using it. Consumer safety is important but there's something to be said for common sense too.
All that said, I'm 5'2" and a lot of the new cribs are WAY shorter than my crib (even with the side down), I have admired them at BRU and will probably buy a new crib when we decide to have a 2nd kiddo.
FWIW, my BOB stroller has a recall on it for a drawstring on the canopy that I haven't done anything about either. Y'all lemme know if you need my full name and/or address for CPS.
OMG, I'm calling right now!!!!
I would probably fix the drop side so that it doesn't drop anymore.
I am 4'10", and I have never had a drop side crib. You will make it work!
thanks gals.
I'm thinking some thin L brackets and some screws will make it into a solid frame crib just fine.
I'm just in that 2 weeks till baby crazy mental stage.
as for the height. with the sides up, I'm going to need a step stool, back when belle was little, unless the side was down, I couldn't lay her down in the crib without "dropping her" at least an inch or two (when it was on the second level down). But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
I am 5'4" and ours sits up high. I had issues at first but learned to adjust easily. It will work perfectly fine!

Ditto. They did the big recall right after Sam was born... I decided it wasn't worth it. I'm smart enough to pay attention and I checked the hardware periodically just to make sure it was fine. For her to get stuck between the mattress and drop side, it would have to be noticeably broken. That said, after we moved it got stuck in the up position and I just left it that way. She goes into the bed awake, so if her legs get 'dropped' a little, it's not a big deal. lol
we used our drop side crib after the recall. No way I was going to invest in something we weren't going to use much longer or ever again. I'm 5'2" (on a good day) and I never needed to drop it. We did keep the matress on the highest setting. We played around with it and it looked very safe to us....
Then again.. we also have 2 of the BOBs with the string thing still in place, used crib bumpers, and GASP blankets.
sides coming loose near the bottoms and babies getting stuck in the crack. Do you remember the bassinet recall from a while back with the photo of the doll hanging by its neck? It's a lot like that. Or just getting trapped between the mattress and the side and not falling through.
At first it was just a few models, then all of some manufacturers. Recall kits were sent out to make them stationary. Now ALL drop side cribs are banned, you can't even sell them or donate them. Only stationary sides from here on out. It all made me very glad we went with without the drop side!
I am baffled by this, I thought you were taller.
I have very good posture.
