Washington Babies

King County Library

I get the e-mails that remind me when something is due. Usually 2 days before something is due I get a reminder e-mail.

Sometimes I get the reminder something is due 2 days before. Then other times they just e-mail that my stuff is overdue and I am incurring fines.

I got lazy and stopped printing receipts because of the e-mail reminders, and now it just seems like they are trying to nickel and dime me like everyone else.

 Is anyone else experiencing this?

Re: King County Library

  • It happens to me too :(  Their system can be kinda glitchy.  I don't think they're trying to nickel and dime, they're honestly working on their system.  I have a girlfriend who works there :)

FWIW, I usually write down on my calendar when they're due too, just so I know.

And I chalk fines up to something I would pay if I were renting a movie.....

Sorry that happened to you :(

  • I guess I figure what I pay in fines is a LOT less than I'd spend buying the number of books I check out and I don't mind supporting the library.  I do wish the reminder system was a little more reliable!

  • Same thing with Seattle Public Library,  As we all know anything electronic can go glitchy at anytime so that's why we still tell patrons not to rely on the courtesy email notifications 100%

  • Yes I do write it off as money I would have spent buying/renting.

They are having problems with it?? DH's baby is the exact same thing but on a larger scale, so I can clearly see they don't know what they are doing. Which makes me wonder if they are hiring...

  • Same thing happens to me. It seems like they've been having issues ever since the system "upgrade". You know know they're "working on it". I want to meet their marketing director and ask them about that little bit of PR goodness.

Really? I always get email notifications from SPL. This is good to know so that I don't get too reliant on their system.

    this.

Plus, it's pretty easy to just log in and look at your account and see what is due and renew things if you need it.  I don't rely on the emails.  I figure it's my job to take care of my business.  :)

  • I love, love, love the KCLS but also have this problem right now with them.. I am lazy and rely on those emails reminding me what's due to remember to turn my books in.  Just went online yesterday and realized one is overdue.. bummer!  I suppose I can pay the $.40 though :)

I'm also having trouble requesting materials online.  Is there a maximum number of materials you can request overall??  (not at one time, just during your lifetime???)

My friend is a librarian...and yeah, there are some real business geniuses running the library system!

  • Yeah I don't understand who is running their website.   It is a solved problem. Libraries all over the country (world?) have websites that work.  Every time they "upgrade" it gets slower and stupider.  I find the mobile site works better.  Which, seriously?  WTF.  And then they have that iPhone app that does nothing.  And they want you to PAY for one that actually lets you renew your books?  Seriously?  When their website is a disaster?  No thank you.
