Food Allergy

Popcicles - question

At daycare today, they are serving push pops for someone's birthday.  Obviously, these contain dairy, and she can't have them.  They daycare director just called and said they have some FlavorIce popcicles in the freezer that she can have.  Do you think these would be ok?  She is allergic to soy too.

Here is the ingredient list.

WATER, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, FRUIT JUICE (CONTAINS ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: APPLE, GRAPE OR PEAR JUICE FROM CONCENTRATE), CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF THE FOLLOWING: CITRIC AND/OR FUMARIC ACID, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SODIUM BENZOATE AND POTASSIUM SORBATE (PRESERVATIVES), RED 40, YELLOW 5, YELLOW 6, BLUE 1.

Re: Popcicles - question

  • I think the list looks ok.  The flavorice things are basically frozen sugar water with some food cloring/fruit juice thrown in.  Not the healthiest option- but probably safe.

  • Is she allergic to any of those fruits?  I let El suck on a popsicle the other day and she didn't have a reaction.  The ingredients were pretty close to those you listed.  She liked it so much, though, that I bought fruit yesterday to make our own popsicles for her.

  • for some reason i though she's allergic to red dye(?)..  otherwise it looks good. Like pp said, not the healthiest option but an option.. she'll probably be on a sugar rush for a while ;)
  • No dye allergies that I am aware of.  I do make her grape popcicles at home by freezing grape juice.  I know it isn't the healthiest option, but I want her to fit in for once and be able to enjoy with her friends.  She probably won't even like it!

    Thanks girls!
