Hives and Benadryl

in Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

So, my LO broke out in hives today and pedi said to give her some benadryl. Well, I did and a minute later she vomited everywhere. 

Do I try to give it to her again in the morning if the hives are still there, or do I call pedi and ask for an alternative?  Just not sure why she threw up, was it the medicine? The flavor (bubble gum yuck!)?

    As far as I know there is no alternative. Give it nice and slow. DD doesnt like it but when she breaks out we have no choice. I tasted it and didnt think it was that bad in taste

    You could try Zyrtec or another antihistamine. Just call the pedi in the morning and ask. It might be the flavor. That sounds super gross. I threw up many a time as a little kid after taking Tylenol. My parents eventually figured out it was the flavor. Once they switched it up I was fine. It might be the same way for your LO.

    Were you giving her Benadryl because of a food allergy?  Maybe she threw up because of the food, not the medicine.

    The hives started during the day while I was at work. It wasn't until much later that the benadryl was given so I do not think the vomiting was due to the food allergy...but good thought!!! Thank you!

    see if you can get the dye free stuff.  Sometimes kids are alergic to the dye.
