DS is allergic to eggs. It has always been pretty mild and he could have things with eggs in it, just not eggs by themselves. Yesterday he broke out in hives random places on his body about 4 hours after he ate lunch. The only thing that contained any sort of egg was ranch dressing, which he has had before without any reaction. We went swimming and the hives went away, then shortly after we got home they came back. He didn't eat anything between when they went away and came back.
We gave him Benedryal and after dinner he went to bed with no other issues. He had a few hives this morning when he woke up (he hadn't eaten anything since dinner last night) and since then they had come and gone randomly. After lunch today his face broke out. He didn't eat anything with eggs at all today.
Does this sound like a possible new allergy? We were thinking it might be something evironemental due to the random appearance of the hives this morning. I don't know how long food would stay in his system to produce a reaction. Any thoughts?
Re: Allergic reaction question
DS breaks out in hives randomly all the time. His allergist suggests that it's probably just environmental or his immune system acting weird, so we just give Benadryl if he's itchy and call it a day.
Now, if they kept happening after he was eating a certain type of food, etc., I would suspect a new possible allergen.
Food reactions can take place anytime within minutes to 24 hours after exposure (however, it is most likely to see a reaction within 2 hours).

When my son had a reaction recently, his body would be covered in hives one day and not so much the next, and the following day he would have it more than any other day for about a full week before all of it went away. I think if someone has an exposure, the reaction can come and go from time to time.
Next time you give him something baked with egg, i would bake it with less eggs and see if he reacts, if he does -avoid.
