Just read a birth story and it got me curious. How do you push the baby out- does it feel like you are trying to pee or __? It's not a hole you usually push out of, so how do you know how to push? Thanks, sorry if this is a silly question, lol
Push like you're pooping. don't hold back in fear you'll poop, its going to happen and you won't even know it. Try to focus all your energy on the push and not scruntch your face or scream a bunch, I mean its ok to make noise and stuff but don't exert any extra energy, put everything you have into the pushing.
silly enough I got that from watching all those birthing shows on TLC and stuff and it helped me during delivery alot. I pushed for 28 min.
You bear down the same way you do when you poop, but it definitely doesn't FEEL like a poop (it feels like a boulder, lol)! Your body will start pushing on it's own at some point. I had two natural births so I could feel when I needed to start pushing. I'm not sure how it works with an epidural, as in what you feel exactly as far as the sensation to push. Both of my kids were out within a few pushes. Your body knows what to do, no worries

Just like pooping. I didn't know that for my first baby and WISH someone had told me. Everyone was just saying "push" and I didn't know how the heck to push. My second was so much smoother because my body wanted to push like pooping.

You will poop, you won't even know and neither will your SO. Well that is how it worked in our situation. I asked SO the other day if I pooped and he said that he had no idea. The nurses are very good at getting all that out of the way quickly.
I was lucky because my body pushed on its own, literally. I was laying there and my entire body tensed up and pushed. They had to grab the doctor from the next room because DD popped out in 9 minutes.
Another thing is that some women love pushing (I am NOT one of them haha). It hurts and it the strangest thing but just remember that the more you push through the pain and get it done with, the quicker you get to hold your baby
9 minutes?! You lucky dog. I pushed for 2 hours!! And OP, like pp have said, it does feel like you are pushing out a big poop.

Yup..it feels like pushing out a poop. The urge to push is strong and pushing feels so good against the pain of contractions. It's weird but after my epi started to wear off and I could feel the contractions, all I wanted to do was push b/c it alleviated the pain so much.

Yep, like poop. I pushed 4 hours (way over what they usually let you do before having a c/s, but he eventually came naturally!)... 2 hours, then a 30 min break, then another 2 hours. It did not seem like that long at all. The pushing part is A LOT easier than the crazy contractions to get to 10 cm, in my opinion.
Yep, ditto the others, it feels like you are taking the biggest crap of your life. I pushed for about 1 hr. Hopefully it will go quicker this next time.
Exactly what the others have said, like a huge bowel movement. I had the intrathecal shot (not a full epidural but numbs you similar to one). The dr and nurse were trying to coach me on pushing and the doctor had his fingers somewhere down there and told me to push his fingers out. I looked at my husband and said "how the hell do I push them out when I can't even feel them?" Everyone laughed. I remembered reading this on here so I just pushed like a huge poop and within a couple more pushes like that she was here.
I had an epidural and it was wonderful! I honestly didn't feel very much at all. I just pushed when the nurse told me too. I agree with everyone else, its like pushing a poop. It only took me like 15mins of pushing, I was very lucky. I highly recommend the epidural!
Re: 2nd+ time moms- what does "pushing" feel like?

All I know is it felt better than just being in labor. I won't say it felt good, but it was certainly better.
I pushed for about 3 hours (which my MW said is average for first time Moms who's labors were not augmented) and it felt like it went pretty fast.
