? about cleaning toys

I just got an awesome deal on craigslist for some play food. Half of it is wooden and half plastic. What is the best way to clean/sanitize it? I will admit, I'm not very knowledgeable in this department. The plastic toys DD has, I usually just run through the dishwasher every once in a while, but since I don't know anything about what these toys have been through, I want to make sure they are super clean! :)

Re: ? about cleaning toys

  • I would probably just clean them with warm soapy water.  Or even the dishwasher.  Wooden spoons go through the dishwasher at my house without problems... but with the paint... hmm.. yeah, I'd just do warm soapy water.

  • When Lucy had pink eye I filled up the bathtub with warm water and bleach and dumped EVERYTHING in there (wood & plastic).  I let them soak for just a bit, rinsed and patted them dry and everything was fine.  You could do the same thing in the kitchen sink if you just have a couple to do.

  • I try to buy all of the girls' toys used. I just wipe them down with soapy water or a clorox wipe if I have them.
  • Thanks guys! There are a ton of pieces so I think I'll just put the plastic ones in the dishwasher and handwash the wooden ones!
