oatmeal recipe question...

This may have already been posted, but does anyone have any oatmeal crock pot recipes that are DELICIOUS?? I found a homemade oatmeal recipe that I tried the other day but it was GROSS! I've been eating instant, but I would like to try something a little healthier...

Re: oatmeal recipe question...

  • I always just made it on the stove, and added cinnamin, sugar, raisins, and diced apples about 1/2 way through cooking.

  • I use real oatmeal and just microwave it according to the directions and add some brown sugar when I'm at work.  At home I cook it on the stove.  They are pretty much the same, I just don't have a very reliable microwave at home.

  • It's not for the crock pot, but this is my go-to recipe for morning oatmeal:

    Mix together the following:

3/4 c rolled oats (not the instant)

    sprinkle of cinnamon

brown sugar to taste, about 1tsp

    handful of raisins or craisins

    handful of frozen blueberries

    1 c milk (I use skim)

Stir together and microwave for 2 1/2 minutes. YUM. It's sweet, but not overly so.

  • I use steel cut oats, they are much healthier because they haven't been processed and had a lot of the nutrients taken out of them through processing.  I don't have any crock pot recipes handy but that'd probably be better than the 40 minutes it takes to cook them.  I cook them in a double batch and then reheat the rest of the week with some berries and agave on it and a little milk.

  • I also use steel cut and make a batch in the crockpot every Sunday.  I add 1.5 cups of oats and 6 cups of boiling water (I use my tea kettle) then put the crockpot to the "Keep Warm" setting and 8-9hrs later I have yummy oatmeal.

I dont add anything to it while cooking.  I found that everything got way overcooked and nasty or just totally bland.  After its done, I divide it into 5 servings (about 1 cup each) for the week and add 2 TBS brown sugar to each bowl.  Then I pack chopped walnuts and dried fruit or whatever I want, separately and stir them in after I heat it in the morning.  I love my oatmeal for breakfast!
