I'm new here, was sent over from the CD board when asking about EC. My first baby is due in November, and I have read about and am interested in trying EC, at least "part time". Wondering if there are ladies out there who have tried it or are doing it and have opinions/input/advice!
Re: New here / EC curious
We did part time EC around 3 weeks. Up until around 2 months, we cued almost exclusively into his diaper during a change. It started with him just arbitarily peeing and me making the sound and turned into him peeing on cue, essentially. We use cloth, so it wasnt like we were wasting a dipaer if he was dry and then cued to pee. For some reason, he also hated being taken to the toilet in those ealy days. By 3 months we were cueing into the toilet or the potty we got him. We still have wet diapers daily (i cant distinguish DS's signals from his other cries), but we also have a good number of catches and are working on signing so he'll be able to communicate better at some point!
If you havent read Diaper Free Baby, or at least been to their website, that's a good place to start and get a ton of info. GL!
My friend's 2.5 yo did this a couple weeks ago!! All over her room.... it's a great motivator to want to try something a bit different!
Thanks all!
We've been ECing since about 2-2.5 months. He caught on immediately, but obviously you will have catch-ful & catch-less days here & there. The first month or so was me cueing him into a flat diaper over a waterproof pad. Now we usually go to the baby bjorn potty, regular toilet, or the sink. The potty is on the bathroom counter, so its easy to hold him up. We probably have 2-3 poop diapers/month now (he poos 1-3x/day, never misses a day) & I attribute them to solids.
Just stay positive. It so nice to feel them relax after EC & be so happy you attended to their needs.
Oh & I SAH, so we do full-time except at night. He actually wears a disposable at night because the wetness feeling wakes him up otherwise & in this house EC is only during the day! He pees so much at night that nobody would sleep otherwise. Good luck!
PS- I got the Bjorn little potty for $0.49 including UPS 2 day shipping by using a $10 Amazon coupon & free prime membership for Amazon Moms. We didn't consistently use it til 4-5 months, so maybe you can get a deal if you wait & they bring back coupons.
