Family Vents.. GO HERE

I've been seeing a lot of vents about our IL's and parents "wonderful" advice and behaviors. I think we need a daily rant space for our families and the things that they do that make us go batty.

It's good for the soul..

Knock yourselves out ladies.. Lets hear them!

Re: Family Vents.. GO HERE

  • Here is mine..

My MIL was here for one full day. My LO has reflux and with that comes hiccups that last for hours. We use a combo of gripe water and breastmilk in a small bottle to help him swallow the hiccups away. It works well for us.

My MIL said "this is unnecessary, why don't you just give him a bottle of water or give him sugar"

Yes... I get that there is some fructose in the gripe water, and that does make me nervous but somehow I don't think giving my baby water or shoving a spoonful of sugar in his mouth is really the "right" thing to do.

Oh.. and its my fault my baby has reflux.

    I'm glad we don't own a gun.

No vents for MIL but Mom:

No, 11lbs2oz is not 'tiny' for a 7 week old baby. I know his cousin is 16 weeks and 16lbs but he is not his cousin- he doesn't have jowls and that's okay.

No, he should not have perfect head control yet- he's doing great and when he's not tired he can support/control his head for a couple minutes at a time which is awesome.

No, we are not BFing because it's free and we're not rich- we're BFing because it's best. Don't offer to buy us formula because we don't want/need it. No I will not bring a pumped bottle for you to feed him when I am sitting right there- that's just stupid. It takes me 2 hours of pumping to get one bottle and I'm not wasting them.

No, we don't need to give him rice cereal to make him STTN. No there's nothing wrong with him because he won't STTN- he's only 7 weeks old. Just because he feeds every 1-2 during the day doesn't mean he's starving.

  • The things that have come out of my MIL's mouth:

    •  Minutes after meeting DS: "All you need is a little sister!"
    • About his birthmarks: "Thank god he doesn't have one on his face!"
    • "You should get a fence around you yard so someone doesn't steal the baby."
    • "I'm so glad you're not using daycare. Even the nicest babysitters eventually get frustrated and smack the kids around."
Took all the effort I had to bite my tongue.

    Are our MIL's twins????
Emmaline has a birth mark on her neck behind her ear and the first thing she said was "thank god it's not on her face!"
When we moved into our aparment on the second floor she told me I needed an alarm because someone would scale the building to steal my daughter.
And two hours after delivering my 9 pound 7 ounce daugher she told me I needed to get pregnant again...
I'm glad she loves her grandbabies but I'm pretty sure the recovery room is NOT the place to petition for more grandchildren LOL.

This one is my favorite.. Because a fence is totally going to keep someone out. Heaven forbid they open the door on the fence!!

  • I've got too many. I posted yesterday about my BFing woes! Other than that my family thinks it's weird I've been having a pretty good week.

I agree that we need to make a weekly post so we can complain about our families!haha What day of the week? I'll be sure to watch for it!

Especially because we are planning on leaving our 7-week-old out in the backyard unattended.

  • My fil insists that I'll want 2U2. That may be the right choice for some, but not us and when I tell him that he acts all superior and tells me he knows I'll change my mind. What? I'm not even hip daughter! My mom loves to point out that many women in my family vaginaly delivered large babies and insists that my 36 hour labor resulting in a c section was not because my son was 9.5 pounds, but because the doctors didn't want to let me have him naturally. She finishes that gem with, its okay honey, you didn't know better and you have such a low pain tolerance. Hello, posterior labor without an epi for 12 hours then 3.5 hours of pushing with no progress isn't anyone's fault!

  • Mine is everyone trying to stick real food in her mouth.  DH tried to give her watermelon a few weeks ago and my sister was letting her lick on twizzlers.  She isn't old enough for real food.

I also get the give her some sugar for the hiccups... No she will be fine without sugar they go away on their own and they don't bother her why do they bother everyone else.

  • To my MIL - I am getting my IUD tomorrow and no I dont need your approval! Nor do I care if you approve or if u think I will change my mind and want another baby! That is my decision and my husbands decision.... And last time I checked my IUD can be removed! Leave me alone
  • Oh, my "favorite" was my FIL and MIL coming down to visit for the weekend and failed to inform us they were SICK!!! And then refuse to go home early and continue exposing my baby to their germs even more. I just about went ninja on their faces. So, so, so inconsiderate. They only live 90 miles away, its not like they can't come visit in a couple weeks or anything when they're better. AHHHH!!!!

  • I've already vented about my FIL on here before, but he's just so frustrating lately! He came over last night at 9pm!!! Umm hello, we have a bedtime routine that you are now fvcking up. I get it, you work 5 minutes from us, but you don't need to stop by everynight you're off before 10. Grr... Elliott didn't get to sleep until midnight because of him.

Also, he has full out admitted to giving SIL chocolate donuts when she was 3 or 4 months old and he keeps 'joking' about doing it with Elliott. I've told him that he won't be doing it and he keeps on with this 'joke'. I don't trust that he wouldn't do it. I won't be leaving LO with him until we're started solids just incase.

  • DS and I went over to a friend's house saturday night for a girls night (plus the kids, but no husbands so that was a little nice). I was helping the bigger kids make cake balls while my 2 girl friends were playing with DS. One of them put cake frosting on her finger and gave it to DS. I flipped and she just laughed, then did it again. They both claim they gave their kids stuff like that at 2 months. I don't care what you did to your kids, this is my kid and he doenst need cake frosting! DH swears DS isnt allowed around them for a while and even tho they are 2 of my closest friends, I'm in agreeance with him.

  • ohmigoodness I love this idea!

MIL thinks that she needs to wake DS up every time we come over and he's asleep or falls asleep. Her reasoning? I'm his grandma I can do what I want!

She also commented on his gas, saying that when I finally decide to start BFing it'll go away. Umm I've been FFing for the last 6 weeks because I couldn't handle the stress of BFing, I'm not going to start now! Even if I wanted to there's just nothing there for him to get! And since we aren't giving him breast milk she thinks cows milk is better than formula..

She thought he was teething at the hospital, that it's cute when her HUGE dog licks his face, that he should drink sugar water once a day, and she asked if she could take him for a day. DH and I said we had plans that day, and we do, but she was super offended and said she'll just come by one morning next week for him. I do not want her watching my child. She has no clue what to do and I'm afraid of her giving him cows milk and letting her dog all over him.

I've had that stuck in me for so long. It feels good to get it out!

this made me lol cause our cats ran out of food last night so I always joke they are gonna eat us and may start with M since she has taken over their spots on the bed.
