Anyone else who's LO is not sleeping more than 3 hours in a stretch?

Viv is 6 weeks and 4 days old today. She still only sleeps in stretches of 2-3 hours. Now that we are in a growth spurt, she's not napping either. Since waking this AM she's been up for 3 hours plus! What can I do to help her sleep? I know she's over tired. Will this just eventually get better? I'm doing okay, napping periodically to get enough rest. But she's not getting what she needs and is crabby because of it. Ideas?

Just FYI, I'm not one for CIO but am reading Ferber now to understand sleep requirements.

Thanks!

Re: Anyone else who's LO is not sleeping more than 3 hours in a stretch?

  • All you can really do is try to put her down after about an hour if she looks at all sleepy. It works better in the morning than later in the day, for us. I do try to do whatever I can to get him to nap - the baby carrier or a car ride or a stroller ride are usually winners if just lying him down isn't getting us anywhere.

I really hope someday he sleeps longer, but I've kind of just resigned myself to this. He's actually getting worse... he used to sleep in 2-3 hour chunks all the way to 9 am. Now he wants to get up at 5 or 6.

  • Loading the player...
  • She's at least letting me sleep until 8am. I just know she's exhausted! Tried a stroller ride this am Am going for a drive now. We'll see....

    Thanks!

  • Kingston is 9 weeks and wakes up about every 3 hours with the exception of a few nights last week (5 hour stretch!). He is a very happy, healthy baby when he is up so I really can't complain, yet it is tiring. Are you BF?
