DS has never been a 7p-7a sleeper or anything along those lines. He used to wake up at least 2x at night and we would stick the pacifier back in with no issues. He would wake up around 530-630 and I would bring him into bed with me and he would sleep until at least 8am.
For the past month, when he wakes up he is screaming. He will not go back down. We can bring him into bed with us or lay on the couch and he is just fine. The second he gets put back into his crib, he is screaming.
I would like to blame this on molars but I think we are beyond that. He naps great in his crib (2 hrs) without any issues. I have tried with and without fan, night lights and sound machine. Last night, I attempted to let him CIO but after 15 min (I went in every 4-5 min), I couldn't take it anymore and he was coughing and couldn't catch his breath.
Please offer any suggestions!!!
Re: in need of serious sleep advice!
We had to change our approach. Somebody had mentioned that at this age they are more aware of their surroundings and need reassured that you are right there when they need you. Unlike CIO, they are able to soothe themselves but it's beyond that they are more curious and want to know where does Mommy go when she leaves the room.
So for us it was a matter of repeatedly going into the room when DD cried and (without picking her up) reassuring her that everything was, lay back down. We would cover her up, maybe give her a kiss. Sometimes a few minutes later she was crying again but after a few times of repeating ourselves she learned we are right there- she started sleeping great again.
We would do the same thing, bring her into our bed to get a few more hrs of sleep. Now she sleeps in her bed alllll night long until the same time she used to in our bed- yay! She does wake sometimes (briefly) once or twice at night but it's literally a matter of walking to her door to show her we are there, saying lay back down you are ok and she does.
I don't know if this will help you but it's what helped!
He goes down just fine the first time, but then when he wakes up later he's inconsolable. I've tried rocking him in his glider, and as soon as I put him in the crib he screams again. I've tried the Sleep Lady Shuffle, and he gets more upset because he can see. I've tried CIO - I can't stand it for more than 20 minutes, when he's showing no signs of calming down at all. If I go in and give him a hug / pat him to reassure him, he just stands up in the crib and screams. It doesn't help him the slightest bit. I'm so frustrated and exhausted.
