am I nuts?

I am starting to think about "teaching" dd her ABC's she is 2 next week.. I am thinking about doing a letter a week.. and do activities and help her to understand what an A is. I dont care if she "gets" it.. she is still young but thought it would be a fun way to do activities.. I would do one activitity a day with the letter, and one snack.. I wouldnt be forcing anything down her throat..

A=make Airplanes, color pics of Ants, etc. have Apples, apricots,  as snacks...

am I being nuts? is she still too young..

Re: am I nuts?

  • i've met 2 year olds who know some letters.  sounds fun to me.

  • no you're not nuts.  a former coworker of mine's sister had a little girl that could write a full paragraph by the time she was 3.  she started doing flash cards at 1 year.  a little crazy i know but 2 is a great age for them to be learning ABC's already.
  • What a cute idea! Go for it.
  • You are not nuts. DD is almost 2 and recognized letters and will say "o" "p" but can't put them together, like O is for owl. I will be starting home preschool after the first of the year.

  • You are not nuts.  DD has foam squares with letters on them that she loves to play with.  When she plays with them, I tell her the letter and animal on them.  As long as the learning is fun at this age, there's nothing wrong with it!
  • Not nuts at all!!!

Emily is 2 years and 2 months and knows the entire alphabet!!!  She can sing the whole song, although she gets tongue-tied with "LMNOP" haha!  :)

I swear, she learned them overnight, out of nowhere and we were NOT actively teaching her in any way.  She can also count to 12, again, something she picked up because of the books we read to her I guess.  It's amazing how fast they learn.

What fun for her, too - great idea!!!

  • Go for it!  My son knows the whole alphabet, we started around his 2nd b-day and he picked it up very quickly.

  • My almost 4 year old knew the ABCs at 2.5 and could sing the whole song with no problems. I highly suggest starting those things now! She'll have fun even if she doesn't understand at first.
