For those who have a full-time nanny

Can I ask how much you pay per week, and how you found a reputable nanny?

We do in-home daycare now and will for our second child, as well, but I think in a few years once we hopefully have three kids, we'll go the nanny route. I just have no idea how much they cost or where to start the search when the time comes.

Thanks!

Re: For those who have a full-time nanny

  • we used care.com to find her and pay $12/hour for our twins. We live in a LCOL area though and I know the rates can vary quite a bit depending on where you live.

  • I had a nanny until my girls were 21 months old.  My coworker's babysitter worked at a daycare and was looking to nanny instead.  She was paid $10/hour there, I paid her $11/hour to watch my twins and we were both happy.  She was somewhat inexperienced with newborns, but took direction well so it worked out.

There are also nanny agencies, but you'll pay fees for them to find your nanny.  Some people prefer that though, knowing they've been vetted and had a background check.

  • I've nannied for several families and was paid between $10 and $14/hour.  $14 was in Chicago, while the others were in Iowa and St. Louis.
