Is your LO a legacy?

Is your LO a greek legacy? A friend is having her second daughter in November and my sorority sisters and I all refer to her daughters as legacies. A GDI (and I say that with love) overheard us and remarked how odd it was that we referred to the little ladies already as future sisters. That being said...

- Were you in a sorority/fraternity?
- If so, rep your letters!
- Any other greeks in your family?

I am a Kappa (HH Chapter). MIL is AOPi. FIL is TKE. Dad/Uncle are FIJI.
LO has his work cut out for him for sure... I loved my TKE/FIJI brothers :)
Of course, if/when I have daughter(s), for sure they will grow up loving the two blues!

The university I went to did not have any greek. I don't think I would encourage DD to join either, but if she really wanted to, she would have to pay for it herself.

  • I was in a sorority....it was the BEST thing I ever did in college. I have some of the Best memories and I made some best friends. I never thought I would join such a thing..but at my college it was the thing to do. I was actually the president one year LOL...I was in SDT -Sigma Delta Tau. If my DD wanted to join a sorority it is totally her call and I would love for her to be in SDT if that was her choice!

My friend from high school was an SDT.  She loved it! Same here... if any of my kids want to go greek, I'll tell them what it was for me (awesome) and why DH didn't go greek. I can't believe you were president! That's pretty intense :)

  • Yes, I am a Gamma Phi Beta so DD is a legacy. I loved being in a sorority, but if DD decides its not for her, that is her decision. Of course, if she said she wanted to join I would fully support her! It was a great experience and some of my best friends I met through the house. DH was not greek, he decided it wasn't for him. So she'll be able to know both sides of the coin.

  • I was a Kappa Kappa Gamma too - at Tulane. In the South, it would have been nice to be a Kappa leg but oh well on having no daughters to pass this onto. DH was a SAE at Santa Clara - I think his chapter has since been kicked of campus. Ha. His parents were both greek too - Mom was a Pi Phi at ASU and Dad a FIJI at Texas.

  • I loved my Greek experience and currently am advising my collegiate chapter as well. I was an Alpha Chi Omega at Stetson and DH was a Pi Kappa Phi there and we met at his fraternity house. Since DS is a legacy, we already have two Pi Kappa Phi shirts/onesies for the little guy!

  • I was a ZTA, so was my mom. It was special having her at my initiation. If I had a daughter I would love her to be Greek if she wanted, but wouldn't pressure her to be the same as me. Every chapter is different at different schools, so I'd want her to go where she felt she fit best.

That being said I have a son, DH was a Sig Ep, and I think he would like him to be Greek, if he wanted, but lord knows he will not have the same experience DH did. He pledged in 1995, and things have changed a lot.

His three plus my one; we are all excited to welcome a little one!

  • I'm a Chi Omega (Pi Alpha chapter) and DH is a TKE (Lambda Gamma chapter). We both attend the University of Cincinnati. All of our kids will be legacies :)

My uncle was also a TKE (not sure what chapter), but no one else in my family is Greek. While I'm excited that our boys are TKE legacies, I really hope to have a Chi O legacy someday. I'd love to attend a future daughter's initiation ceremony.

  • I'm a Phi Sigma Sigma and DH is Sigma Chi. I loved my sorority experience and would love for my daughters to have the same but of course I would never push them to pledge if it wasn't their thing.

  • I was an Alpha Chi Omega at Southeast Missouri State.  DH was a Kappa Sigma at Lake Forest. We both agreed that we would not tell our kids what we were when they decide to go to college. Sororities and Fraternities can change, so we want them to decide for themselves where they feel they fit in best.  Joining one was a great thing for me and if DD/DS wants to go greek too I will fully support them.
