Potty training question - DS stands up to pee

DS decided this weekend to potty-train himself, which is great except that he pees standing up and now I have no idea what to do when we go out to stores, restaurants, etc.  Anyone handled this situation before?

I checked out the PTing sub-board but it is waaaaay slow, like the 5th post is from June 1st.  TIA.

  • I'm not sure what the problem is that he stands up to pee........

  • I don't get it.  Why is this a problem.  My DS stands to pee too.  He can do it anywhere.

  • Is he still too short to pee standing up in a regular potty?

  • I let my 3.5 yr old DS just stand on top of my feet.  Or I bring a travel potty in the back of our SUV and I just empty it when I can.

  • If he's too short have him stand on your feet, or stand on the seat and lean his hands on the tank, or just hold him up a bit and let him pee airborne! My kid still does this when we are stuck in a handicapped stall
  • If you are saying the problem is he is too short, I just hold DS #2 up a little bit to get him high enough, or sometimes even put his knees on the seat.

Normal toilets come up to his waist.  We have stools at home.

I've tried holding him up in the air and he didn't like it, maybe he'll take to it better now that he's further along in training.

  • I just hold DS up when we are out. If your DS is just starting out PTing, maybe keep a few cheerios with you so he can aim at them when you are at public restrooms.  That always got my DS to go without any resistence.

What is the difference between a toilet and a stool??

  • I just hold DS3 up so he's high enough to pee into the toilet.  I never had to do that with my other boys, so I guess they were taller when they started potty training.

One day my older two were both standing at our toilet peeing, right before their bath.  DS3 walked up to join them, and he's so short that it just hit the side of the toilet and ran down to the floor.

  • I hold DS1 up if he cannot reach.  He also stands on my feet if needed.  If we are somewhere private (and its okay- out in the woods), I just let him pee on my tire : )

A stool is something you stand on to be tall enough to do something??  You pee in a toilet :)

This just made me literally loud out loud at work.

To the OP, now I know what you mean. My DS was so abnormally late to PT, that he was tall enough to reach normally by the time he finally did it. That's why I was confused.

    Happy 4th birthday!
