I am struggling with this so bad! She is 19 months old and still takes a bottle. She will not drink anything from a sippy cup unless it is water. The only two things she will drink are her formula from the bottle and water from a sippy.
She outgrew her rice allergy (YAY!) so we have moved onto rice milk. As soon as it hits her lips from her straw on her sippy, she freaks out and throws it down.
FYI - We have also tried a million different sippy cups. None work. And we have tried going cold turkey for three days and only giving her formula from a cup. After three days of not drinking anything, we had to stop and go back to the bottle. I want her off bottles like yesterday. And it is selfish of me, but man, I am sick of cleaning those damn things every day!
Re: Get my kid off the bottle!
congrats on rice! that's awesome!
wow - i could have wrote this myself! My kid is 20 months old and i think he'll be using his 2 (or 3) bottles a day until he goes to college.
I also tried going cold turkey and like you, wouldn't drink anything other than water.
I'm also soooo sick of washing bottles!! it's not selfish.. it's just time to move on.. I have a huge bin with sippy cups. he loves his sippy for water, but not milk.
Recently i tried putting chocolate syrup (allergy friendly) in his milk (cool) and seeing if he drinks it outside in the heat but he was confused and pushed it away.. but i think he liked it -just was confused.. so i'll try again. If your DD can have a the allergy friendly chocolate syrup than i would try chocolate milk, i heard it works for many parents. This way she can have 2 cups of chocolate milk (and maybe lower the chocolate after time).. who knows.. might work.
we use this one.. so it's already melted and all you have to do it is shake it with the milk for a bit.
i like that it changes the color so it doesn't look like milk (too much) so he thinks it's a complete different drink. I think last time i didn't put enough syrup so i need to try with more.
Thanks! Where do you buy this?
I got mine at my local health food store (mrs. Greens) but you can get it at whole foods probably or other health food stores.
here is a store locator for it
Amazon also has it
My nephew refused the sippy cups, but would drink from a straw. WHICH WAS SOOO WIERD! The only way my sister got him off the bottle was to buy cups with lids and straws. I guess him seeing her drink out of a straw encouraged him to do the same.
