Phil and Ted stroller owners- questions

Tell me what you like and dislike about the double stroller. Most of the reviews say the brake is terrible. Do you use it as a double or a single? Can you jog with it? I will have 2 boys about 2 yrs apart. I like that it can be used as a single or a double. Any input will be appreciated.

Re: Phil and Ted stroller owners- questions

  • I like that it drives nicely, steering is good, ride is smooth for baby, has a good basket size.

I don't like that the sunshade is too small, the brake is very hard to put on/off (it does not loosen up with use), and it is kind of a pain to fold. It is a multiple step process and is not easy for others to learn. The toggle switches that you have to pull out are hard. If i had to do it again, I would have looked harder at a Valco that is the same type of design and see how it folds. And I do love how easily the Baby Jogger City Mini folds. It wouldn't be the inline design but maybe that's not as big of a deal since so many on this board love that stroller.

  • I've gotten by just great with my single and double BOBs (and single McL).  I rarely use the double unless I am jogging with both kids, otherwise I just use the single and P walks.  Not sure whether P&T jogs but if you are a jogger I would get the double you can use for that.  I can't wait until Isaac can walk too and then I will probably hardly ever use a stroller.  P mostly walked everywhere starting about 18 months when she got steady and I was very pregnant with Isaac so it is possible.
  • I have a single BOB that I love. I was orginally going to keep that and buy the double City Mini. Then I saw the P&T's that was a good deal. It would allow me to have the single and double that I may or may not need. I could sell my BOB and basically break even or close to it. I read the reviews and most are mixed. I would love to convenience of one stroller but I am afraid to give up the easiness of the BOB. I really don't want a double BOB because it is too big imo.

  • I think people are extremes with the P&T. Either they love them or hate them. I would go to Buy Buy Baby or New Baby Products and try out folding and unfolding it. I bought one off CL and tried for 2 weeks to find an easier way to get the fold and even went to play with a new one in the store and just couldn't get it. That's what sold me on the City Mini. Definitely go test drive whatever you're going to get first.

Pretty much ditto this.  I'm a little bit of a different situation because my girls are the same age, but I definitely loved it for the first 18 months or so because it drives beautifully and can get into places a traditional double can't.  However, the brake is difficult to put on/take off and it does take some finesse to fold (I don't think DH has figured out how to fold it yet).  It was great until DDs were old enough to bicker about who was in front and figure out the one in the back could kick the back of the front seat and bug that girl.  It is getting to be enough of an issue that I'm not a fan of taking it out with DDs now.  There have been times I had one in that stroller and then one in my back in an Ergo.

You probably could jog with it as a single, but I don't think it would work well as a double because I think you'd wind up kicking the back of the second seat.  Definitely go test drive one and see if your older DS likes the back seat since that is likely where he would be for a while.   I think I started using the back seat with my DDs when there were about 6 months old.

  • Just as pp said... my son and daughter began to bicker about who got in front.. and my son would kick her contantly.

The worse was that as my son got bigger his weight would kind of topple the PT if I was walking down a hill or even up and I had to stop.. it was weird.

  • I love my phil and teds sport.  its fairly lightweight for a double.  Its very easy to manuver even with both kids in it (mind are 40lbs & 27lbs).  Its got big wheels that I can easily roll over curbs.  Its narrow so there is no problem getting it through doorways or narrow spaces. I LOVE that it can be a single & I wont have a double sitting in my garage when the older kids outgrow stroller riding.

My kids don't fight over who goes in the front.  I dont think you can run with it but you should contact P&T or a dealer to be sure.  Folding it is a multiple step process (removing the back seat then folding the main stroller) that does take some getting use to.  The sun visor does not provide much protection.  Its kinda bulky for air travel.  we dont fly much BUT the one trime we did fly with it, I ended up buying a bag they sell to check it.  you pretty much need to take it apart to get it in the bag.  Kiinda a pain when you are man handling kids at the airport
