I picked up my invisalign today

I was feeling all cocky thinking it didn't hurt very much and didn't need meds. The orthodontist even called me at 7 to tell me to take some Tylenol and make sure I was OK. I was. Now I feel like someone hit me in the mouth with a brick. How did that happen so fast? I took some Tylenol but I'm afraid it's too late.

  • Ouch!! I remember instead of a retainer I had something similar to that after I got my braces off. I was horrible about wearing it though and only would for a few days before my ortho appts.

That fvcker would hurt like crazy when it had been a while.

  • Do you have to wear it 24/7?

If you can take it out, chewing gum helps release the tension being caused by the movement. It was the trick my ortho gave me when I got braces and it helped a lot.

  • I wonder if it's similar to the pain I had when I used to get my braces tightened? 15 years later and I can still feel it.

  • I take it out to eat and drink and brush my teeth. I am afraid to take it out right now because I can just imagine the "pop" of my teeth going right back to where they started once the pressure is released. Hopefully it will be a bit better in the morning.

  • Ugh. I hope the tylenol kicks in fast.

I want invisalign so much.  I've had consultations but it is so expensive around here (or maybe everywhere).  Someday.

  • I had invisalign. I hated it! It sucked sleeping with them at night. I would wake up in the morning sometimes and find that I had taken them out in the night and not remember! lol.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much?  I've always been interested in this, but that is as far as I've gotten with it.

  • Oh yeah, it is crazy expensive. Surprisingly for me it was about $600 less than braces though and even more surprisingly it turns out we have adult orthodontic insurance which covered nearly half of it.

Around here, for a "simple case," like mine I've been quoted roughly $5k by two different dentists/orthodontists.

I think mine was about $5,500 before insurance.

  • Ludicrous, did they have to file down any of your teeth?
I was all set to go until I realized they were going to be filing down perfectly healthy teeth to make extra space in my mouth.  It sounded unpleasant at best.  I'm curious what your prep experience has been like.

No, luckily I did not need any teeth filed or pulled but if I had of I don't think it would of stopped me. I may have biitched and complained about it but I put everything in perspective with someone reaching their hand all the way past my newly stiched crotch into my ute repeatedly with no anesthesia or pain meds and that usually makes things better. You see, I think my mouth temporarily stopped hurting.

  • I know, right? Did I ever tell you I had a VERY similar experience post-delivery?

I'm glad your mouth feels better ;)

You see, you can totally handle a little tooth filing.

  • I'm so excited for you! And me because I'm so curious how invisalign works out. Lol. I went with normal braces because my bite needed a lot of work. For the first few months my mouth felt like a horse kicked me in the teeth. It would also swell up everytime I had them adjusted for a least two weeks. And the rubber bands are so annoying and look ridiculous. I can not wait to get this metal out of my mouth and have pretty teeth for the first time in my life. I'm then going to bleach the crap out of them.

  • I want Invisiign. I hate myself for not wearing my retainers like I was supposed to after I got my braces off.

same here. ;( unfortunately we dont have dental insurance currently.  we have to pay extra and we decided to hold out on that until isla needs to start going and then we will pay the extra. ;(

  • Gah! I want Invisalign so badly. I had traditional braces in high school; I actually got them off 6 months early! I wore my retainers (mostly) but my senior year my wisdom teeth tried to come in. One of the bottom WT was canted at a 45* angle & pushed my bottom teeth back crooked :(

I remember well the pain of adjustments. I used to beg my dad to take my for food immediately after my appointment because within a few hours, I was down for the count.
